Thirty Three

Kore

My handmaiden painted the last of my plump lips red as I adjusted the cleavage of my plunging gown. Aides had picked out the dress to wear so of course I obiged.

He always did know what looked best on me.....

I look into the scroll one last time as I try to decipher its contents.

"Still haven't found the answer you seek your majesty?" the old demon asked.

"No.. I haven't" I sighed and closed my eyes to try and focus. Nothing was coming to me.

"Aideoneus was in the same position as you. He only got his epiphany just a mere minute before he was scheduled for his dokimi" she rambled on.

Just as I was about to close it and accept my defeat, my eyes fell to the last sentence of the document:

"But souls can't be sold. They can only be lost and never found again."

"Souls cannot be sold" I whispered to myself as the epiphany shot into my mind.

"What was that Persephone?" she questioned me again.

"Sounds cannot be sold!" I screamed to the fright of my handmaiden. She nodded excitedly and clapped, relieved that I had finally reached my outcome.

I had knew it all along! Souls cannot be sold in the underworld! The dokimi would be one that involved the release of a soul! I knew I could pass this test knowing what I knew now.

"Are you ready Kore?" she slicked my edges one last time.

I nodded and inhaled deeply before I stood and followed the guards to be escorted to the throne room.

Aides

I wore a black hoodie to blend into the background of the crowds. I didn't wish for her to become nervous when she saw me.

The smoke from the crowded room invaded my airways as I inspected the crowds. People from all over the kingdom wanted to glance upon her splendor. I walked up to the stairs to join the others in the panel.

"Aideoneus, we do hope your choice of spouse will be victorious?" Minos, one of the judges turned around to face me. The three of them all sat toward the front of the room, excited to see her make a fool of herself.
