Kore

My eyes opened as I heard the violent rustles of papers from across the room. Aides looked more troubled than before as he peered at a basket of scrolls that were scatter across his desk.

"Aides." I come behind him massaging his shoulders with care, "come to bed. You have been in the same spot since I last left you" I groaned. I missed his warmth beside me. He remained silent, only kissing my palm and resting it against his cheek.

"You have been restless since yesterday. What bothers you?"

"I just got news from Hermes about the trial for Poseidon."

"A trial? For my uncle Poseidon?" I asked carefully. He nodded and continued looking at the scrolls. Surely he knew he couldn't just end his news, making me wonder in fear. He sensed my interest and carefully continued. "I am the main juror in his case. I was bestowed with the task of deciding his fate as a god."

"What!" I exclaimed through a whisper. This was all news to me.

"He is accused of raping a mortal at the temple of Athena, a sacred sanctuary. He also is accused of sneaking her into Olympus" he continued. I snatched the scrolls from his hands and read it over myself, shaking my head at the news. "Poseidon would never do this!" I rejected, proudly defending my uncle.

"Kore, he was there at the scene of the crime. We have witnesses saying it was him" Aides stood, moving to the bathroom to change.

"It wasn't him Aides! Maybe something or someone went into his spirit, something ....like Zeus?" I suggested.

"Kore.. it was a drunken party . Mead and wine was flowing. I remember cause I was there" he admitted, rolling up the last of his scrolls.

Aides

"You were there?" She asked, leaning against the wall to face me.

"Yes. We came in at the same time... this was before I met you" I admitted, bending my head into the sink.

"Oh" she pouted, looking at me to continue the tale.

"It was a party for Athens to show off her 12 priestesses. Zeus had just finished teasing one of them. She was the most rebellious... and memorable"

Kore nodded, encouraging me to continue. "I already talked and teased her. Zeus and I left while Poseidon stayed behind and spoke to her. I don't remember what else happened as the night went on and the wine flowed. All I remember is the girl being pushed onto the floor by Athena and Poseidon coming in after her."

"Don't you think this all sounds to convenient? Zeus disappears, you not remembering anything?" she hinted, putting the pieces together. In theory, it did sound feasible but as head juror, I needed to rely on facts, not hunches and intuition.

"If he says he didn't do it, then I believe him" she proclaimed, slipping back into the bed.

"It is never that easy Kore" I suggested slipping in next to her. She pouted and rested her cheek against my torso, finding peace in my warmth. Carefully, I ran a gentle palm through her wild curls. How I loved her so.

"Isn't it? Zeus incriminating Poseidon with his sins? He must have many."

"So it seems" I chuckled lazily, pulling her lips to mine. "I will be off in three days time" I whispered, wiping the sheen from her lip.

"Can I come?" she asked me softly. I looked into her eyes, questioning her reason to go.

"I want to support my uncle.... I miss him."
