tw: nonea/n: so i'm sure most people who read this are coming from my first imagines book, so hi. i just wanted to say, i do write a lot of imagines, so if i write two that are dangerously similar, please tell me. other than that, enjoy. :)
"wow. this place is so pretty, melanie." i gushed to my best friend. she had just gotten married and now we were at her reception. which, of course, was beautiful.
"aw, thanks babes. ashley and i really wanted everything to be perfect. and, it means a lot that you could make it. we know your mental health hasn't been amazing lately, but for you to come to our wedding means the world." melanie told me. i smiled as my eyes got a little stingy. no, y/n. you're not crying right now.
"i wouldn't miss this for the world..you're both my best friends and i love you guys so much." i said.
i talked to my two friends a bit more, before they told me they had to greet more guests. i nodded and took a drink of water. everyone else was drinking wine, but i didn't drink. it was so unappealing to me.
at one point, mel and ash's families came to greet me. i was still stunned by the wedding. it felt like it was just the day before that the three of us were best friends in middle school. but now we were adults, and we had lives. i had yet to find someone to love, but that was okay. seeing ashley and melanie happy was enough for me.
besides, i had an aching twenty one pilots obsession. and a huge crush on tyler joseph. i didn't really need a boyfriend.
a bit of time passed and ashley came up to me.
"y/n, you should go sing karaoke." she told me. i laughed aloud.
"what? no way. besides, aren't you and melanie supposed to be the singers, halsey?" i replied, using ashley's stage name. she smiled.
"please?? you're really good at singing too, you just don't show anyone. remember 6th grade choir?"
i smiled. in 6th grade choir i had a solo, which i nailed. but i was more confident, and a hundred times less anxious then.
"i don't know.."
"you can sing twenty one pilots." ashley said. i sighed.
"if i make everyone sad, that's because you made me sing." i semi-joked. the only song i knew word by word was taxi cab and taxi was..sad. she smiled.
"yay! and don't worry, you're not gonna make anyone sad, trust me." she replied. i stood up.
"well, wish me luck."
i walked up up the stage and told the dj what song i wanted. he nodded and i went up to the microphone. i smiled.
"um, hi guys. ashley's making me sing so, sorry in advance. here we go." i spoke.
tyler's pov
"yeah, and-" josh cut me off.
"is that taxi cab?" he asked me. i turned around to look at the stage and there was a girl. she was singing taxi cab.
"uh, yeah. i think so." i replied.
"who's she?" josh asked me. the girl was extremely pretty. she had h/c hair and e/c eyes. her eyes were slightly pained as she sang the words i wrote years and years ago. she almost seemed to be singing it better than i did.
"i have no idea. must be a friend or family member of ashley or melanie." i said.
"she's good. and from the look on your face, i can tell you're thinking the same thing."
"she really is. um, i wonder if she knows that we know ashley."
"probably not. we've been trying not to make it a whole big thing that we're here, remember?"
"oh, yeah." i muttered. i watched as the girl sang to her heart's content. God, she was beautiful. i knew then, that i needed to talk to her. i needed to know her.
the girl finished the song and everyone cheered for her. i did as well, clapping vigorously. that was the best cover of taxi cab i had ever seen.
she gave an awkward bow, and i took a sip of my water before walking towards her.
okay, tyler. don't make a damn fool out of yourself.
your pov
i finished taxi cab, and then i handed the karaoke microphone to someone else. i walked off the stage and smiled. i really tried my best, and i felt i did well. melanie and ashley gave me a thumbs up and i nodded.
i sat down at my table, and i was joined by someone a minute later. expecting it to be ashley or melanie or someone i knew, i turned around confidently. it was someone i knew, but not personally.
tyler. robert. freaking. joseph.
"h-hi." i said. he smiled.
"that was a really good performance. do you listen to twenty one pilots?" he asked me. i blushed. what was he doing here?
"yeah, i do. i'm y/n." i replied.
"i'm tyler. my bandmate and i are friends with hal- ashley."
DUH. how could i possibly forget that ashley knew tyler and josh?
"oh, i know who you are." i said, my newborn confidence present. "like i said, i listen to twenty one pilots. but, it's a pleasure to meet you anyways."
"the pleasure is mine. that really was a good performance. do you write music?" tyler asked me. i laughed, but he was serious.
"oh, you're serious? no, i don't. hell, if ashley didn't beg me, i wouldn't have done karaoke in the first place. i'm a little shy."
"well, you have an amazing voice."
look who's talking. i could literally fall asleep to yours.
"thank you, so much." i thanked him.
"we were hoping you guys would meet!" melanie and ashley appeared out of nowhere. "you know, tyler, y/n over here has a huge crush on you."
DUUUUUDE.
"wow, thanks mel." i said sarcastically. tyler chuckled.
"well, i've found myself to become quite the fan of her's as well." he told melanie, making me blush. ashley smiled widely.
"that's it. i ship it." she decided.
"i second this." melanie chimed in.
"same!!" josh added, coming out of nowhere. tyler and i chuckled awkwardly.
"you guys need to hold your horses. we literally just met." i said. tyler nodded.
"agreed. and if you keep talking about shipping us, we won't be able to get to know each other." he agreed. ash, josh, and mel nodded, disappearing.
tyler and i talked more. it was odd, because i already knew lots about him already. part of me wished i didn't know him yet, because it would have made meeting him more like i was actual meeting him. as if i had no clue who he was in the first place.
we talked all the way to the end of the reception, and even exchanged phone numbers. i had a blast getting to know the real tyler joseph, and i really hoped i'd get to see him again. he promised me that he'd call me, but i chose not to get high hopes.
but, it was okay. because he kept his promise.
