"what if they don't like me?" josh asked me, picking at his nails. i shook my head as i took a left turn.

"they will, trust me. they're just a little unfiltered so don't let anything that they say get under your skin." i told him.

"what do you mean by that?" he frowned.

"they joke around a lot and some of the stuff they say can come off as a bit offensive. but i promise they don't mean it."

"oh...okay. i'm just really nervous."

"i was too when you had me meet tyler, jenna, and mark. but that went well, didn't it?"

"you're an easy person to love, y/n." josh told me. i smiled.

"and you are too." i assured him. i pulled into melanie's driveway and parked. i unbuckled and josh just sat there for a moment.

"they'll like you, josh. they will." i assured my boyfriend once again. he nodded and ran his fingers through his purple hair before unbuckling.

the one thing i hoped was that brendon wouldn't be there. he was one of my oldest yet unfiltered friends. God only knew what he would say considering we used to date. but my friend group knew i was crazy about josh, so i made them promise they wouldn't make him uncomfortable. but brendon was incredibly impredictable.

we got out of the car and walked up to melanie's front door. i knocked and almost immediately melanie opened the door with a plate of cookies in her hand.

"hey!" she greeted us. she gave me a half-assed hug and then looked at josh. "you must be josh! i'm melanie."

"it's- it's nice to meet you." josh replied with an awkward smile. melanie smiled back and let us in.

"do you want a cookie?" melanie offered.

"mel." i said, giving her a look. her and i both knew what was in the cookies. she came to a realization and then looked back at josh.

"nevermind you might not like them. but there's other snacks in the kitchen." melanie quickly said.

"i'm okay, but thanks." josh replied, politely. he then leaned down a little bit so he could whisper to me. "what's in the cookies?"

"nothing." i whispered, not wanting to make him uncomfortable by mentioning the edibles that melanie often made. josh was a bit too innocent for that.

melanie went towards her kitchen and hayley walked up to us.

"hey, y/n. is this josh?" hayley greeted me. i nodded. "hi, i'm hayley."

"i'm josh." josh smiled. hayley scoffed.

"believe me, i know. y/n never stops talking about you. like ever." she told my boyfriend. i let out a nervous laugh.

"thanks for calling me out, h." i said. she just slung her arm around me and smiled.

"anything for my main ho." she joked. i noticed josh's eyes shift slightly at hayley's humor but it wasn't too noticable.

"okay well anyways, can you tell me where my big brother is?" i asked her.

"dallons probably in the kitchen or the living room." hayley told me. she then looked at josh. "have you met dallon?"

"yeah, i've met all of y/n's family." he replied. i went over to josh and took his hand. i really liked doing that.
