"y/n just please listen-"

"GET. OUT." i spit. randy looked at me with pleading eyes.

"can't we please just talk?" he begged me.

"NO. you cheated on me! in my house!! and with your brother's wife! get out of my fucking house!" i screamed at the top of my lungs. randy just looked at me, sadly. he then grabbed his keys.

"i'm sorry."

"you should be. never fucking call me again. ever."

randy finally left and i collapsed onto my couch, erupting into tears.

to say i had a horrible taste in guys was a complete understatement. somehow, every man i had ever been with just ended up being a douchebag at the end of the day. i don't know how i ended up being the one to attract all the assholes. i just was.

maybe it was just men in general. or it was me. did i really give a look that said 'i like to be treated like a doormat'? i didn't know. but i made one decision that night.

i was absolutely done with men. for good. i wasn't going to devote myself to a man that was just gonna use me.

because where was the point in that?

a year and a half later

i walked into starbucks and ordered my preferred drink. i then sat down at a table and scrolled through instagram while drinking my drink. i enjoyed my freetime. it was like a relaxing time where i don't have to think about any of my worries.

"do you mind if i join you?" a tan man with fluffy brown hair and a stubble asked me. i raised an eyebrow.

"do i know you?" i asked. the man let out a small chuckle.

"i'm tyler. i saw you sitting here and i wanted to introduce myself."

oh, great. another guy who wanted to waste my time. lovely.

"well tyler, it's nice to meet you, but i'm not really interested in meeting anyone new right now."

"and why's that?"

"it's a waste of time."

tyler raised an eyebrow and looked at me oddly.

"a waste of time, how?" he questioned. i let out a humorless chuckle.

"i know how it goes. you talk to a girl, ask her on a date, you start dating, and then decide she's not worth the time and you use her. i've played this game so many times, i know how this ends." i stated. tyler frowned.

"who hurt you?"

"you don't even know me."

tyler was silent for a few moments. i could tell he didn't know what to say. i was sure he wasn't expecting this, to say the least. but i wasn't just going to let my self get walked all over.

"well, i'd like to get to know you. if you gave me a chance. i don't know who you dated in the past but i can assure you my intentions are far different from theirs."

i studied tyler for a second. a large part of me wanted to give the man a chance. he seemed kind and charming, and it had already been a year and a half since i kicked randy out.

"my name is y/n." i finally said. tyler smiled.

"hi, y/n." he said to me. i gave him a small smile.

"hello." i replied.

"do you think i could get your number?" tyler asked me. i shook my head.

"how about you give me yours. that way i still have a bit of time to decide if i want to give you a chance."

tyler grabbed a pen and a small piece of paper from his coat pocket. he wrote a ten digit number on it and handed it to me.

"here it is. i really hope you call, but no pressure at all."

"we'll see."

"i have to go. see you around?" tyler asked.

"maybe." i replied. tyler stood up and walked out of the coffee shop as i stared at the piece of paper in front of me.

later, when i was home and sitting on my couch, i grabbed my phone. i then grabbed the small slip of paper that was given to me earlier and dialed it into my keypad.

maybe tyler did deserve a chance.
