"hey, y/n, my best friend tyler is coming over so i just thought i'd tell you." josh said, plopping down next to me on the couch.

"tyler...he's the one you've been best friends with since you were three. right?" i asked. he nodded, taking a bite out of his apple.

"yeah. and we just started a band. but i'm sure your dad has told you about that." he replied. i nodded.

"yep. when he first told me he was dating your mom he was like 'and her son josh is a year older than you. he's in a band and stuff, so maybe you should check it out. blah blah blah.'"

"i mean you can watch us rehearse today. i just need to ask you one thing."

"what's up?"

"can you and tyler..like not date or anything like that? i know it's sounds like i'm trying to control who you date, but honestly i just don't want you guys to date and then break up and then i have to choose between you guys."

"yeah, i get it. i doubt i'll even like tyler like that anyways."

"okay, sick. he should be-"

*ding dong*

"that's probably him." josh told me, getting up to open the door for tyler. i smoothed my skirt out. even though i wouldn't be making any advances on tyler, i figured i might as well at least not look like a slob.

i heard tyler and josh talking before the two came out into the living room.

damn it, tyler was so attractive.

he had fluffy brown hair and toned tan skin. when he saw me, he gave me an inviting smile that gave me butterflies. of course tyler just had to be drop dead gorgeous.

"tyler this is my stepsister y/n. y/n this is my bandmate and best friend tyler." josh introduced tyler and i. tyler held his hand out for me to shake it. his hand was soft.

"it's a pleasure to meet you." tyler said to me. his voice was warm and just as inviting as his smile. i loved it.

"it- it's nice to meet you too." i replied, blushing. josh looked at us back and forth for a second before just shrugging.

"tyler and i are gonna go practice in the basement. so that's where we'll be." josh said. tyler looked at me up and down and smiled.

"you should join us, y/n. i'd like to get to know josh's new sister." he told me. i looked at josh who just nodded.

"i already told her she should. you coming?" josh asked me.

"yeah, sure!" i replied.

we all walked towards the basement. josh went inside and tyler held the door for me, letting me go first. i thanked him quietly before going ahead.

i sat on the couch and josh sat at his drumset. tyler plugged in his microphone and then tested it by saying taco five times in a row. it was really cute.

i needed to calm down with my thoughts. i promised josh i wouldn't. i had to at least respect that.

"hey josh, we should practice air catcher." tyler said to josh. josh raised an eyebrow.

"bro we've literally perfected air catcher. why don't we work on kitchen sink?" he replied. tyler widened his eyes for a second.

"air catcher."

"okay, fine. air catcher."

a few seconds later, the two boys began playing music. i lifted my legs up and went criss crossed on the couch as i watched, fascinated. who knew, this could be some person's dream in only a few years time.
