i had three hours left of my shift and then i could finally leave what had become my hell for the day.

normally, i enjoyed running my bakery. i loved baking and i loved seeing people enjoy the things i made with my hands.

however, i wasn't the hugest fan of valentine's day. well, not the holiday itself but i hated being alone on valentine's day. which, i was that year. and almost every year before.

countless people came in with their significant other and asked for one of my valentine's day sweets, or they came in to grab one for their significant other. it really just had me wondering if i'd be alone forever. and honestly? i wouldn't be surprised if i was.

it was around six pm when a guy came in. he didn't even ask for anything, he simply sat at a booth and stayed silent. he was alone, and boy did he look cold. he must've been outside for a while, considering it was about -7 degrees fahrenheit. one of the coldest days we've had that winter.

i considered leaving the guy alone. maybe he was waiting for someone. but he just sat there. maybe it was my loneliness trying to convince me that he was lonely too, but i felt a need to just talk to him.

"can i get you anything? like a cup of coffee or a cupcake?" i walked up to the man, and asked. he simply shook his head.

"i'm sorry, but i'll have to pass. i left my wallet at home." he replied. i shook my head and smiled.

"that's no problem. i don't mind giving you a cup of coffee for free, i just brewed a pot and there's nobody else here." i told him. he gave me a small smile and thanked me, as i disappeared to grab him some coffee. i didn't know how he liked it so i didn't put anything in it and grabbed some cream and sugar for him to add it himself.

i walked back over to the man and set the cup in front of him. as stated earlier, business had dialed down and there was nobody else there. so i sat across from him.

"thank you again, miss." the man thanked me. i just shrugged.

"it's really no problem...what's your name, by the way?" i asked him.

"i'm tyler. and you are?"

"i'm y/n."

"it's a pleasure to meet you, y/n."

"the pleasure is mine."

it was silent for a few minutes as i didn't know what to say. but then i had an idea.

"so tyler, if you don't mind me asking, what are you doing all alone this valentine's day?" i asked tyler. he sighed.

"i wouldn't be spending it alone but my girlfriend just broke up with me yesterday. i had a whole day planned but as you can see that didn't turn out well. i was walking and eventually i just ended up here." he explained. i frowned. i knew being dumped sucked. but the day before valentine's day..

"i'm so sorry. that's horrible." i told him. he shrugged.

"i kind of had a feeling she was slipping away but that's why i wanted to use today as a day to get her to fall in love with me again. but i guess it didn't happen for a reason and that's okay." tyler said. "but anyways, what are you doing alone on valentine's day?"

"well if i can't run the bakery then then it'd have to close for the day." i replied, with a small chuckle. "but, i'm also single anyways. i think i gave up on love a few months ago when my ex boyfriend told me my sister was the prettier one."

"oh gosh, that sucks. but if it makes you feel any better, i haven't even seen your sister and i bet i can guarantee you're the prettier one." tyler told me. i blushed a bit. that was one of the sweetest things i had heard in a long time.

"thank you..hey would you want to try one of my cupcakes?" i offered.

"absolutely." tyler agreed.

i went to the counter and grabbed tyler a cupcake. i had a special recipe when it came to cupcakes, and it wasn't often that someone told me they disliked them. but still, when someone new tried them, i still prayed they would enjoy it.

i placed the cupcake in front of tyler for him to try it. he peeled the wrapper and took a bite.

"holy crow..this is good." tyler said, barely a second after he took a bite. i smiled.

"really?" i asked. he nodded.

"absolutely. y/n, this is amazing. i swear, gordon ramsay is punching the air right now."

i giggled at tyler's words as he finished the cupcake. we continued to talk for a little while longer until i looked at the time and realized that it was getting close to closing time.

"as much as i want to talk to you more, i have to close up soon." i told tyler. he looked at his watch.

"wow, we've been talking for a while." he laughed.

"i guess we have." i agreed, laughing as well.

"i'd like to talk more, if you wouldn't mind giving me your number."

"i think i'd like that."

i ripped a piece of paper off of my notepad and wrote my number on it. i folded it and handed it to tyler with a smile.

"i'll text you when i get home." he promised me.

"then i'll text you back." i replied.

"sounds like a deal."

tyler then grabbed his things and went out the door. i simply smiled in bliss as i recounted the evening i had just had.

that definitely wasn't the worst valentine's day i've ever had.

a/n: i know what you're thinking. "jena why are you posting a valentine's day imagine the day after?" well i hate valentine's day. just kidding. i was just sick yesterday and it slipped my mind. anywho, happy late valentine's day, losers.
