tons of doctors swarmed into the room, taking the tubes away and checking things like my heart rate and what-not. i watched them, confused. so what was reality? was i still with josh? was i with tyler? and how the hell did i end up in a two year coma?

"what- what's going on? what happened to me?" i asked.

"you've been in a coma for two years. you got into a car accident. nobody expected you to live, and it's a miracle you're awake. well, someone expected you to live." one doctor told me and then motioned to josh. josh waved shyly.

"who was i with in the car accident?" i asked, already knowing the answer.

"your boyfriend, tyler. except i wouldn't say boyfriend now but..i think josh should explain that one to you." the doctor told me. josh frowned and my stomach dropped. did tyler..?

"is tyler dead?"

"no, no, it's not that it's just complicated." the doctor told me. the other doctors finished messing with my things and then disappeared. "you have to stay here for a few more days, but i'll allow you to talk to josh."

the doctor disappeared and josh took a seat next to me.

"s-so what happened?" i asked.

"do you remember the party? it was like 1 am and you and tyler left?" josh started.

i nodded.

"tyler said it got extremely foggy. but, when he tried to pull over, you guys drove into a ditch. he was okay, somehow. he called 911 and they rushed you both to the hospital. tyler only had a fractured wrist, but other than that he was fine.

you were a completely different case. as soon as you made it to the hospital, they declared you to be in a coma. right from the start, they said you may not even wake up.

tyler was broken. he visited you every day for six months, praying you would wake up. but of course, you didn't. he eventually lost hope and...continued with life."

i could tell josh was avoiding saying "moved on". i kinda appreciated that.

"i know you're probably wondering why i'm still here. for a while, i wondered the same thing. i know we were never really that close but, i didn't understand why tyler just gave up after a half year. something told me you were going to come back. and so, i waited for you."

i was silent for a few moments as i took it the information. the whole thing with me being with josh was a dream i had during the coma. i was still with tyler. well, not really.

"so where's tyler now?" i asked josh. he looked down.

"when he decided that you were never coming back, he uhm..got back together with jenna. i'm sorry." josh told me. i frowned.

"it's okay. i guess that's what i get for falling into a coma." i replied, letting out a short humorless laugh at the end of the sentence.

"don't say that." josh said, looking up at me. "you couldn't help it."

i was silent again. i didn't know what to say. i fell into a two year coma and the only person who waited for me was my, now ex, boyfriend's best friend. of all people.

"what about my family?" i asked josh.

"we told them about your coma and they kind of just dismissed it. is that normal?" he told me. i nodded. i didn't expect my family to have much care. i was never really close with any of them.
