To be completely honest, the acapella song was... horrid. As a skilled show choir, not an acapella group, we had no idea what noise went where to make the perfect tune and we had no idea who should be stepping to the front to sing what. It was bad.
I felt defeated. As the rest of the Glee club headed home, I parked my butt at the piano.
Finn said his goodbyes to me, told me that he wouldn't be here this time if I started to cry, and said he would see me the very next day.
Brad leaned over the top of me to take his sheet music, gave me a soft nod, and headed out the door. All without saying a word.
It was just me, my thoughts, and I.
I texted Ryder.
Can you chat now? x
He responded in less than 30 seconds.
Cant soz. Moms makeing me study. xxxx
"Great," I murmured to myself. And now I didn't even have a distraction.
I was exhausted. The days were long and stressful, but also bleak and boring because I didn't have my boyfriend. There were things to look forward to, but nothing... great.
I tapped at the piano keys. White then black, black then white. White. White. White. I smacked as many as I could. The noise was horrific.
A voice came out of the dark, making me jump. "Can you play?" It was the nerdy boy from the cafeteria, standing in the doorway. Today, he wore a nice button up shirt and a fancy vest. The same messy hair, the same glasses, the same soft smile.
"A little bit, yeah," I smiled, "what about you?"
He almost laughed. He stepped into the room, hands buried in his pants pockets. "No, not at all."
The fact he was here was exciting: it meant he wanted to join Glee club... right?
"I'm Marley, by the way," I said as he neared closer.
"I'm Travis," he smacked the top of the piano and gazed around the room. "So, this is Glee club, huh?"
"Yeah, this is our spot," I replied. "Are you... thinking of joining the club?"
He turned to me, his eyes burning through his glasses into mine. "I can sing."
I tried to crack a joke. "Well, that's a good start. Would you like to come by tomorrow afternoon and audition?"
"Or we could... we could sing together right now." Travis said, excitement evident in his voice.
I was hesitant, but he was harmless. "Alright, what kind of music do you like?" I asked.
Travis smiled at me, so brightly it hurt my eyes. "I am a sucker for a good love song."
I nodded, pulling my stool further into the piano. I tapped at the keys, playing the soft and melodic tune. He came closer to me, leaned on the piano, and watched as I started us off.
Me:
I wanna pick you up and scoop you out
I want the secrets your secrets haven't found
Paint me in trustI'll be your best friend
Call me the one
This night just can't end (oh)
I looked up at Travis, who was staring at me with what seemed like googly eyes, and nodded to signal him in.Travis, with Me:
Will you share your soul with me?Travis' voice was smooth, deep, and silky. He had a very classical vibe about him. It wasn't like anything we had in the Glee club already and I knew, from that moment, that he was a perfect fit.
