The rest of the class was a blur. The cool dude's last name was Mendoza, what in the world was his first name? Again, the bell brought me to my senses. The whole of the class ran out of the room, leaving me and the teacher behind. Nope. The cool dude wasn't there. Phew alas, the endless first day ended. School ended! Shit! I forgot to ask Mrs.Thompson to drop me!!! I rushed out of the class and called Carla. Please pick up! But she didn't. Oh god. The worst of the day isn't over though! Now I have to walk a mile! But there was one person I could ask for help. NOT the cool dude. NEVER him! I called Adam. Thank god he picked up. "Adam!!!!" I exclaimed.

"Whoa what?" he asked.

"Can you pick me up from school? Dad said he's busy and I forgot to say that to Carla."

"Ummm I'm afraid I can't do that. I'm on a delivery in the outskirts of the city." I could almost imagine him sitting on a hammock and rubbing the back of his neck.

I grunted and cursed myself under my breath." Fine. Walking a mile isn't that bad, right?"

He puffed and said," It'll take you about 30 minutes? You don't jog do you?"

"I wish I did. Fine. I should start walking. Bye Adam." He returned one of his guilty goodbye and I hung up.

As I started walking down the road, I heard some footsteps trailing behind me. I turned to see the cool dude running to catch up with me.

"Hello, Kyra!" he said with a mocking voice.

"Hello, whatever your name is, cool dude!" I replied in a sarcastic tone.

"Right, we haven't properly introduced ourselves yet. You go first."

"Hmm. I'm Kyra Samuel." I said without extending my hand.

"Um hello Kyra Samuel, I'm Tristan Mendoza. Nice to meet you."

"Tristan Mendoza." I repeated under my breath.

"Alright, introductions away. Why are you walking yourself home?"

"Why are you walking with me?" I demanded.

"Ooh okay. I am going to my house."

"And where is that?"

"Know the French Quarters? About 20 blocks down the side alley."

"Oh mine is about 10 blocks away from the quarters but in the main alley." We live comparatively close to each other. "How come we haven't bumped into each other yet?"

"Well I have. Once." This cool and hot guy met me already?

"What? When?" I couldn't hold those words back.

"Remember that cartoon festival two years back? I met you there. We didn't actually meet but who can forget those silky brown curls and super hot eyes?"

I blushed so hard that my cheeks are now deep red. "Not that festival where I dressed as Mario!"

"Yeah. Exactly that." As he finished that sentence, his phone rang.

The person on the other side said something that made him mouth ' Holy shit!'

He said," Sorry, Judy! I totally forgot. I'm coming home right now and we can do it. It's gonna be so much fun!! Love you. Bye!" But that part where he said ' It's gonna be so much fun' seemed like it wasn't fun at all.

"Don't get me all wrong. I told me younger sis Judy that I will help her with some dumb project."

"Thank god I don't have younger siblings." Now he stopped to stare at me. I stopped too.

"So you mean you have an older..?"

"Sister. Her name is Katie. She is currently in London doing a medical course. And she is.." No stop. I almost told him that she was a vampire.

"She is..?"

"I mean, she is coming back in a year!" I said and started walking. He did the same.

"Cool. You didn't answer my question yet. Why are you walking yourself home?"

"Now that's none of your business. Anyways there's nothing wrong with walking home, is there?

"Yeah totally, but I might have overheard your conversation with that Adam guy."

"You mean you eavesdropped on me."

"Nope. Overheard is the right term."

"Whatever. When you already knew the reason, why did you ask me?"

"Relax. I was just trying to build a conversation with you." he said with a cool voice.

"Now that everything's done, will you let me walk home in peace?" I said as I took out my phone to call mom and check if she could give me a ride. I can't spend another minute with this idiot. But he snatched it away from my hand as soon as I unlocked it.

"Oh wait. Let me give you my number." He said typing it on the dial pad.

"Hey you dick! That's my phone! Give it back now." I exclaimed. But he did not, until he sent a text saying 'Hi this is Kyra.'

"Will you give it back to me now? Just so you know, both my parents are cops." That seemed to have got his attention.

He returned my phone and threw his hands in the air saying, "Sorry officers' daughter. Please don't arrest me!" he said, sarcastically begging.

After that, we walked all the way home in silence. At the road junction, we went our separate ways. The first thing I did as I reached home was sprawl up on my bed. My phone chimed. And someone named 'Cool dude' texted me. Wait, did he save himself as 'Cool dude'?

Cool dude: Reached home?

Kyra: Yeah.

Cool dude: Cool.

The next thing I did was rename his name from 'Cool dude' to 'Tristan'.

I called mom. It went to voicemail, again. Now that is very very unusual. I just said," Hi mom! I'm home. First day wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Call me, I need to tell you the details. Love you mom."

Truly, this day wasn't as bad as I thought. That's when I remembered what made this day bad.

Katie.
