"Kyra! You should start, dear!" mom called out.
"Yeah mom, I'm coming." I said and headed downstairs.
"It seems they have a lead on the flower shop case. So your dad and I are gonna be working on that. We may have to go to the precinct after dinner, so please hurry up." she said.
"Okay, I'm starting right now." I said and guided Tristan into the kitchen.
"Right. So, I guess you know nothing about cooking. But you must know the ingredients." I said after we entered the kitchen.
He shook his head and said, "I know nothing about any kitchen stuff."
"Is it? Tell me, what's cinnamon?"
"Oh, that stem-like thing with a little flower-like thingy on top?"
"No, that's a clove."
"Oh, right! But I was close."
"Not even a bit! Okay, do you at least know how to cut veggies?"
"Of course!"
"Great! Start cutting these onions and tomatoes."
"Okay. What are we making?"
"Oh, this is my gram's special gravy."
"Hope it's delicious!" I shot him an angry look and started preparing the other ingredients. After adding oil, I slided the cut vegetables onto the pan. I added the spices and other taste boosting ingredients. I noticed that Tristan was just staring at me.
"Don't you have anything else to do?" I asked.
"I can stir the gravy for sometime." he said.
"Nah, it's almost done."
"Oh, come on! Let me do it! I'm bored just standing there."
"Fine." I said as I handed him the spatula. I was standing just next to him. When he changed the spatula to his other hand, he knocked down a cup of flour that was kept there. And it fell on me. The bottom of my pink shirt was now white. I just stood there while he was laughing his head off. I put my hands on my hip and scoffed.
"You're such an idiot." I said.
"Sorry, I'm sorry." That was all he could get out of his mouth before bursting into laughter again. After some time, he stopped laughing and cleared his throat before he said, "Okay, I'm sorry. That was an accident. That's it."
"That's what you laughed so hard for?"
"What? It was definitely funny enough to laugh like that."
"God, you are a total jerk. I have to change my dress now!" I mumbled to myself as I rolled my eyes and started to head upstairs. I stopped because I was in the middle of something.
"Um, keep stirring. After 5 minutes you can turn the heat off." I said and ascended the stairs. I changed to a blue top that matched the colour of my eyes. I was surprised to see the table already set up as I headed down the stairs.
He saw me and said, "I wanted to be helpful."
"That's so nice of you. Thank you."
"Oh come on! I did nothing. And I wanted to say that you look cute in a bun." he said and my cheeks turned red immediately. I said, "Thanks. I should call mom and dad." I used it as an excuse to cover my blushing. I knocked on their bedroom's door.
"Dinner's ready!" I said.
"Oh, we're coming darling!" dad said.
I walked back to the kitchen and sat in one of the chairs. Opposite to Tristan as he was already seated in one. My bun was really loose and it fell down.
"God, I should really learn how to tie a bun." I said to myself while I tried it again.
"No, I like it this way more." he said. What?
"Oh, okay." I said as I gave up on the effort. Soon mom and dad came and dinner was served. We ate in silence. My mom and I were the first ones to finish so we went to the kitchen to put our dishes for washing.
"Mom, do you know there's going to be a charity event next week?" I said.
"Yes, sweetie. I heard. It's going to be so fun!!"
"Yeah. Tristan uh, asked me if I could uh, go with him to the event." I whispered as I was in hearing range.
"And did you say yes?" she said in a low whisper.
"Yes? I don't know!"
"You'd be mad to miss a chance like this." she said and walked out of the kitchen. I went out and dad was finished too.
"Kyra? We have to go to the precinct. You know what to do!" dad said.
"Yes dad, I know." I said and they went off. I went back to the kitchen to find that Tristan was finished too.
"How was dinner?" I asked.
"Um, I can't say perfect, but it was really good for an amateur." he said and I rolled my eyes.
"Okay, it was delicious. Really."
"I know." I said and we laughed. "So, um about the charity event.. I've made my decision." I said as I focused my graze on the ground. He walked towards me and said, "And?"
"Uh.. Yes."
"Yeah!! Way to go girl!! Whoo!! Don't get me wrong but this is my first ever high school dance."
"Mine too."
"Great!! I'm so happy I got to go with you."
"But, I'm a terrible dancer. Don't mind me if I step on your toes, well, all the time." We both laughed.
"I'm no good either. But I am very excited for that day!!"
"Me too. Hey, I have to ask you something."
"Yeah?"
"What were you and Carla talking about this morning?"
"Oh, I was asking her your address."
"Oh, right. I just wanted to know. That's it."
"Anyhow, I should get going. Mom's gonna be worried about me."
"Yeah, okay." I said and we walked to the living room where the entrance was. Just before he left, he said, "Dinner was fantastic."
"Thanks. See you at school tomorrow?"
"Yeah, bye!"
"Bye!" I said and he left.
