We ate dinner while discussing school topics.

The sleepover began. Carla made a bucket list that was meant to be accomplished tonight. That included:

1. Pillow fight

2. Eat ice-cream at 12am.

3. Do not sleep and watch the sun rise.

4. Apply makeup on each other.

She and I were excited for the upcoming night. We did the classic pillow fight first. Then we talked and waited for the clock to turn 12. When it did, we hurried downstairs careful not to wake my parents up and dumped spoonfuls of ice cream into our mouths. After a few brain freezes Carla said," I think that's enough ice cream for today." and we went back upstairs. The first thing Carla said as we got upstairs was, "You should text Tristan."

I don't know why but my heart was plummeting heavily and I said, "Uh what for?"

"That he should accompany us while walking home."

"We can say that in school tomorrow." I did not like where this conversation was going.

"Come on, why do you have his number then? Use it!!" she exclaimed.

"How do you know I have his number?" she was compressing a smile now.

"I may have looked into your contacts......" she said while adjusting her hair properly.

"You what? Carla!!" I exclaimed.

"I'm sorry. I was just curious to see if you had his number. Sorry Ky...."

"Hey I was just kidding. But that doesn't mean you can check my contacts again." I said, allowing myself a little smile. She giggled and said, "But I mean it Ky, you should text him."

"No, why would I even text him this late?"

"To check if he's awake!"

"Ha nice one but not going to happen."

"Pretty please with a cherry on top?" No one can resist this face Carla makes when she pleads.

"Fine...." I took my phone selected Tristan's contact and

Kyra: You awake?

Tristan: Yep totally. What's up?

Kyra: Um Carla's parents are out of town and my mom insists you should tag along us while we walk home. Are you cool with that?

Tristan: Nope on a rope. Never in a billion years.

My heart became heavy all of a sudden. I should be happy that he isn't coming, right?

Kyra: Okay, no problem. Sorry for disturbing you this late.

Tristan: Are you kidding me? I was joking Ky! Of course I'll come. I would never miss an opportunity to irritate you!

He just called me 'Ky' which is a nickname that only the people closest to me use.

Kyra: Oh right! Cool. Um thank you?

Tristan: You're welcome, your majesty. See ya at school tomorrow!

I didn't even realize I was grinning ear to ear until Carla said, "Why are you smiling?" I forcely cut off my smile and said, "Oh it's nothing. He said he'd come."

"Oh that's great! See I told you texts work." she said and I scoffed.

We spent the next few hours gossiping about school and boys.

When it was almost dawn I yawned and went to sleep. It felt like I slept minutes ago when my mom yelled from downstairs, "Wake up Kyra!!!! Carla you too.... If we're off to work you have to walk to school." that made me spring up from my bed. I'm not walking to and back from school. "Coming...." I yelled back. I shook Carla and she woke up with a start. "Wanna walk to school and back? Wake up Carla!" That made her sit up too. "I'll do anything but that." she mumbled. Getting ready for school was always a rush. I took a quick shower, stuffed some bread into my mouth and joined dad in the car with Carla.

The ride to school was all blurry as I was daydreaming most of the time. Not exactly daydreaming, just dreaming as I was still sleeping. When we reached the school, dad had to actually shake me fiercely to get me to wake up. "Hope it's a good day at school! Off you go girls! Um Kyra, remember to ask Tristan about that returning home thingy." ,dad said.

"Oh I already texted him and he said he'd come." I replied. With a vague, "Oh that's great!" he took off. I could tell that his mind was preoccupied with something else and I just couldn't tell what it was. Anyways I have another day of boredom to face. Just as the class piled in, the teacher wished us an extra fast "Good morning!" and continued to speak.

"For those of you who don't know me, I'm Mrs.Hoops. I'm your sociology teacher. But before we get into the subject, we need to discuss an important crisis that is going on." The class murmured something. I was confused. What on Earth is going on? I had one, one sleepover and I missed something important already? Whatever it was, it was dead serious. I could tell that from the look on the face of Mrs.Hoops.

"Silence please." she said and waited for it to happen. When it did she said, "Some of you may know, some of you may not know. But I want all ears to be wide open. Yesterday night, there was yet another animal outbreak in the city." When she finished the whole class gasped and shouted something like, "What?" "Another outbreak?" "What are the police doing?"

"Enough!!" Mrs.Hoops shouted and class went silent immediately. "Enough complaints about the police. They are doing their best. Now why am I telling you this? It is because, when you are a detective, you should be aware of all crises that are happening or that happened in the past. These kinds of animal breakouts are encountered every year in scattered places. Research is going on. People are desperate to find out more about this. And that is your homework for today. To find out what happened during these crises. I want you to do a case study. Team up with someone and I want the work done within a week. Is that clear?", she finished and the class chorused, "Yes Mrs.Hoops."

"Good. Now inform me who you're pairing up with. Two members in a team. We can start the lesson after that." As soon as she finished, a familiar voice shouted,

"I'm with Kyra." I turned to see the origin of the voice. Of course. It was none other than the cool dude.
