Vampire Sister

Chapter 13

I was getting ready, while following the home alone protocol. I shut all doors, windows and taps. Turned all lights and appliances off. And I headed out. When I was nearing the junction, I could see Tristan already standing there. I crossed the road and nudged him with my elbow as he was preoccupied with his phone.

"Hey! Didn't see you coming." he said as he saw me.

"Yeah I thought so. Okay, now guide me to your house."

"When you told me your mom didn't allow you to come, don't think I believed it for a second. I just didn't want to spoil your fun." he said.

"Oh is it, now? It was so obvious that you were pranked." He just shook his head in disagreement and started walking. I followed him, until we reached a small but eye-catching house.

"Whoa!! That's beautiful." I exclaimed.

"Thanks" he said and guided me inside. The inside of his house was as beautiful as it's outside. The main door opened into a small verandah and as I went inside, I encountered a hall of portraits exactly like the one in 'Airship' in 'Among Us'. The hallway branched into two paths, one that led into the basement and the other into the living room. In the living room, I met Tristan's mother.

"Hi Mrs.Mendoza." I said formally.

"Don't need to be that formal, dear. You can call me Tracy if you want." she said.

"Um okay, but I think I'll stick to 'Mrs.Mendoza'." I said with a little smile.

"Tristan's told me a lot about you." she said pointing to him. Then I heard a weird noise from one of the three rooms that the living room was connected to.

"And meet my sister, Jude." said Tristan. First I couldn't spot her. But then she came out running from the room nearest to me. Tristan moved closer to me and said, "The one the monkey came out from is her room. This one... " he said pointing to the middle room "is mine. And this one on the left, is my parents'."

"Now if you'll excuse us, Kyra's here for a project and we need to start doing it." he said and we entered his room. As soon as he shut the door, I said,

"I wanted to talk to you about.. yourself."

"Okay? What do you want to know about me?"

We talked for a long time. Discussed things about each other. I learnt he likes the colour orange. Not bright orange, but a calm sunset orange.

"Nice talk." I said. I glanced at my watch and the time was 6. "Shit, we have to do the case study." I said. He looked into his watch. "Oh.. Sorry. Let's get started, shall we?" he said and we did. It took us about an hour to search things on the internet and compile them. After printing our project with Tristan's printer, I had to leave.

"Hey, Tristan. I have to leave. Mom said I have to get home before 7:30."

"Oh okay. Come, I'll walk with you till the junction." After I bid goodbyes to his family, I walked out of his house along with him. He was quiet till we reached the junction. But as we did, he said, "So.. what's your opinion about me now?"

"Oh, I totally forgot that I said that. Hmm, maybe you're not so irritating after all. You're... nice."

"Well that was expected, because I know I'm cool." he said and I scoffed and said, "Whatever, umm thank you for helping with the project and for walking with me and everything."

"Uh you're welcome." he said as he rubbed the back of his neck with his hand.

We bid goodbyes and I started walking across the road and reached home. I called mom and said, "Hey mom! I reached home."

"Oh good, honey!! It seems we'll be home late tonight. Can you ask Adam if he can bring you a pizza if freely available or you can pay for it."

"Oh umm okay. I'm sure I'll manage somehow. How about you?"

"Don't worry about us sweetie, we'll eat in some restaurant nearby. Order now and sleep early, okay?"

"Mm-hmm. See you, uh well tomorrow morning?"

She laughed and said, "Yes, bye!!"

"Bye!" I said and hung up.

I sat on the couch to collect my thoughts. Today is September 30. That means there is still a month's time until Katie returns. What am I going to do until then? I mean apart from school, there is nothing else to keep me occupied. I am gonna have to focus on my studies more and be attentive maybe? I don't know. This whole vampire thing has gotten me super confused and worried. Maybe I should go somewhere. With mom and dad? Not possible. Ever since the animal breakouts, they've been just too busy. 

My mind rang a bell. Animal attack in the centre of the city that's crawling with people is impossible. Unless, it wasn't even an animal. Vampires. Does that mean the first one near the donor's was because of...... Even in my mind, I couldn't finish that sentence. I've always known her to be a sweet and caring girl. Well that's totally changed because of her vampirism. But who turned her? Even Katie isn't interested in finding out, then why should I be? But I guess we'll find out.
