The movie was really really funny. It was almost 11 when it ended. The word 'fun' seemed absent in our lives for a while. This brought it back.
"If I knew that this movie had vampires in it, I would have watched it with more enthusiasm. But it wasn't that nice." Jake said. "I mean, the becoming vampire part was really good but I don't see a firm backstory. The director must improve his story writing skills."
"I think you're talking about my dad." Carla said and Jake went still.
"Man, I'm so sorry. It was really nice." he covered up. Everyone was silent. I think Jake must've assumed that Carla was actually sad about it. She burst out laughing and Jake loosened up.
Everyone went back to their rooms after that. I decided to sleep alone. I had just tucked into bed when my phone rang. I grunted out loud as I walked a few steps to reach it. Dad? I thought to myself as I picked up.
"Hello?"
"Hi Ky! Honey, I'm so sorry. Are you awake?" he said with a tint of concern in his voice.
"Yeah, what happened?"
"Nothing serious. Um, I just.. want you to get me something really important. It's in our room. If you just open-"
"Dad, I'm not home." I said without thinking of an excuse.
"Where are you then?"
"I...I'm at.." I struggled. "Adam's," another voice said and I repeated it to dad as I turned around.
"Oh, okay. Well, you will go home tomorrow, right? You can do it at that time. It's late. You should sleep, honey. Bye!"
"Bye, dad." I said and hung up.
"I see, you're terrible at lying."
"Yes, I am. What can I do about it? Just like your naiveness."
"I am not NAIVE!" Tristan burst out in fake anger.
"And I am not TERRIBLE at lying!" I spat at him. I was drowning in my own fake anger flames.
He smiled and said, "I just came to say good night."
"Aw, how very sweet of you."
"Stop being sarcastic, Ky." he said and left. Our little fake fight actually cheered me up. But my mind lingered on how his voice made the sound, 'Ky'. He's never called me that before. Just in a text.
...
I was chasing someone. No, scratch that. I was being chased. I ran down an endless corridor. A vial with some dark liquid inside it was kept at the side. I immediately knew that it was the blood of Katie's sotíras. Not Kevin. I grabbed it and ran as fast as I could. I reached Katie but before I could give it to her, they caught me. I saw her cough blood. I screamed and shouted at them to let me go. But they wouldn't do it. I saw her as she struggled to stay alive. I saw her as she fell down. I saw her as she took her last breath.
I shrieked out loud as I sat up. It was a nightmare. It was nothing more. It wasn't the truth. But it could be. No, it isn't. Katie's sotíras is coming tomorrow. I confronted myself and hoped that no one heard me scream. I tried to go back to sleep but my eyes wouldn't close. They lingered on the heart-shaped pendant of the necklace Katie gave to me. It was about 2 in the morning when I finally fell asleep.
After a few hours, a few voices chorused, "Wake up or defend yourself."
"I'd prefer the 'defend yourself' choice." I said as I pulled the blanket over my head.
