Chapter 30

I changed my dress and sat on the couch to see if I received any text messages from Katie. I did, along with 6 missed calls from mom. I immediately called her back.

"Hi mom! I told you I wouldn't be able to pick up if you called."

"I know honey. But I needed something important. Are you home now?" she sounded worried.

"Yeah,"

"Okay, can you go to our room? Open the laptop and open my mail." she said and I did it.

"I've opened your mail."

"Okay, now I want you to open the mail that says 'Access to Identifier'. I don't know why but the face scanner isn't working. So I had to get an online website and it required access. And I forgot my mail password."

"That's ok." I said as I clicked on that mail.

"Click on the 'Allow' button and the job's done."

"Done."

"Thank you, honey. Ah! I got it here too! Finally!! I would be able to close the flower shop case and we can go on a family trip! Gotta go, bye!!"

"Bye!" I said and she hung up. Another tab was already opened in her browser. I clicked on it and found all the security footage of a particular area in New Orleans. I found a file peeking out from under her laptop. I opened it out of curiosity to find all the information about a guy named Victor Davies. He was charged guilty for the murder of.. wait, Bob Russel? Does that mean he is the so-called vampire hunter?

I soon found out that the security footage was from the cameras around his house. I said to myself, 'I am doing this just to gain experience.' and started watching the footage. I noticed something strange in the footage about a week before Bob's death.

This Victor guy had just locked his front door and left. Soon after that, another guy came and picked the lock? I don't know. Took Victor's fingerprints off the door handle? Probably. But for whatever reason he did that and remained undiscovered. The guy who did that looked somewhat familiar. I convinced myself that I didn't know him and closed the laptop. I took out my phone as I headed to my room. I still hadn't replied to Katie.

Katie: ?

Kyra: Sorry I disappeared on you. Something came up and I had to go. The relationship's on the verge of getting back together. Anyways, I don't want anything from London. Just a small souvenir would do.

I don't know how, but she seems to be on her phone all the time. She texted me back.

Katie: No problem. It's nice to hear that your relationship is good to go. And there are a lot of souvenirs, I'll definitely buy you one.

Kyra: Thanks!

The next thing I did was reheat dinner and eat it. I watched an episode of The Originals and went off to sleep. The next day was a normal day that consisted of waking up, going to school, coming back home, binge-watching Netflix and sleeping. The whole week went off like that. Then came the day, when Katie was coming home. I hadn't seen her in person since she told me that she was a vampire. But she won't lose control and bite me, right? I'm still a bit afraid of that. Nah, she's my sister. She wouldn't lose control and bite me. I'm a human though. And she did lose control at the blood donors'.

Oh god. I should really stop thinking about that. The day was Friday, a family Friday. We used to have a timetable for each day like Mom's Monday (Mom's day off), Tasty Tuesday (We would have something really delicious for dinner), Windows Wednesday (Cleaning all windows and doors), Theatre Thursday (Watch a movie) and Family Friday (Spend time with others). Saturday and Sunday are the only days we can do what we want. But it was fun. I went down, refreshed and ate breakfast. Mom and dad had taken a leave to welcome Katie.

"So, what are the plans for today?" I asked mom after eating breakfast.

"It's an actual welcome party, so invite your friends."

"Oh, that's.. great!!" I said as I said to myself, 'Do I have to invite Tristan as well?'

As if she heard the question, she said, "You have to invite Tristan." I was awed by the coincidence but then said, "Yep, okay."

"Did you know that a friend of hers is also coming?"

"Jake?!"

"Yeah, Jake."

"I definitely didn't know. But I'm okay with it."

"Well, I didn't ask if you were okay with it because he's almost here."

I sighed and said, "Whatever, I'm gonna tell my friends."

"Uh, wait! Ask Adam if he can bring pizza, we'll pay for it."

"Oh, okay." I said and she nodded. I decided to text everyone, in the Fripple group. It was earlier Trios, but since Carla added Tristan, we changed it to Fripple.

Kyra: Hey guys! My sister's coming home today and we're throwing her a welcome party. You're all gonna come. It's at 5 since she's landing at 4:30. And Adam? If you can, then bring some pizzas. We'll pay for it.

Carla: Ooohh!! I'll definitely come.

Adam: Oh okay. I can bring pizzas.

Tristan: I don't know if I can come.

Kyra: Come on! She's coming home after 6 years!

Tristan: Um I'll try my best.

Kyra: Great!!

It was just 10 but still, I started preparing everything and decided to bake a cake. I knew Katie loved chocolate but mom and dad hated it. So I finalized on a vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. And some buttercream for mom and dad. After I put the cake in the oven, I started working on the frosting and buttercream. It was almost 2 when I was finished. I ate lunch and all there was left was to wait for Katie to land. I watched another episode of The Originals and when it was 4:30, I went to the airport with dad.

"There she is!!" dad said as soon as he spotted Katie walking out of the airport along with Jake. I didn't care if she was a vampire or human and hugged her.

"It's so good to see you!" I said after hugging her.

"Yeah! Definitely!" she said as she loaded her luggage into the trunk of the car. After that was done, everybody sat inside the car and we headed home. I rang the doorbell and to my surprise, no one opened the door. After a few moments, I called out, "Mom? We're here. Open the door."

From somewhere far, she said, "Just a second, darling. I'm using the restroom."

"Oh, okay." I said. After some time she opened the door. She looked suspiciously behind her and then said, "Katie!! Darling, come here." she said and hugged her tightly. We went inside and the first thing I saw was Carla trying to squeeze herself under the table near the couch. I realised that they were trying to keep this a secret and stood before her and covered her. Katie saw that and asked, "What's going on?"

"Uh what? Nothing. You should go and you know, settle in your room." I said. She raised her eyebrows in question and then headed upstairs. I turned to find Tristan standing right behind the door. I sighed and said, "You guys are the worst when it comes to hiding."

"What? Your house is not the ideal place for hiding!" Tristan exclaimed.

"Exactly. Ouch!" Carla said as she banged her head on the table while coming out.

"Whatever, where's Adam?"

"Oh, I called him. He said he got stuck while bringing the pizzas."

"Oh, okay." I said.

"Keep Katie upstairs till Adam arrives. Meanwhile, we'll be setting up the place." mom said and I nodded.
