I controlled my effort to scream as, if I did so, my throat would be slit. With his voice, I guessed that he was a boy of about 18? 19?
"So, what are you doing here? Huh?" the boy asked.
"This is how you treat all of your visitors? A knife to the throat?" I asked with a tint of sarcasm in my voice. He pressed the knife harder and I winced. I could feel the hot blood escaping through the narrow slit the knife made on my throat.
"Nah. Just the ones whom I don't recognise and who try to sneak in. Well, in this case, both."
I secretly wished I had taken the other door. I pushed my elbow back harshly in an attempt to punch him in the stomach but he caught my hand before I could do that.
"You're still thinking that I would not kill you. Well, you don't know me, do you?" he snarled into my ear. "If I make a decision, I stick to it no matter what." His breath made the loose strands of hair stir. I just wanted to keep him distracted long enough for Tristan to come in search of me. But he seemed determined to hurt me. I can use my foot to stamp hard on his toes and I can get away if his reflexes get distracted due to the pain. But if I use that strategy and still can't get away, then after Tristan arrives, I wouldn't have any surprising attacks for the boy. That's what I called him, the boy. Knowing his name wasn't my first priority then. I silently wondered where Tristan was. Surely, checking if the family that resides in that room is the Leonards, wasn't going to take that much time. What if they were the Leonards? Then I got stuck here for nothing. Absolutely nothing. I better confirm that this boy is not one of the Leonards.
"So, are you a Leonard?" I asked, trying to keep my voice from wavering.
"Hmm, you keep forgetting that I'm the one with the knife. Not you."
"You're deflecting my question, therefore giving me the answer, yes." I said and he made a noise somewhat like a growl and pressed the knife even harder, causing the blood flow to increase. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw it, dark scarlet, liquid flowed down my collarbone, staining the neck part of my jumpsuit. I bit back a scream which resulted in a groan of agony.
"Yeah, that's what I expected." I could imagine his lips forming a smirk. But again, I didn't see his face. Some movement on my left caught my attention. I caught a glimpse of blue and denim. Tristan. Relief passed through my body like a wave. I immediately stiffened up, not wanting to alert the boy. If he was a vampire, he'd have seen it or heard it, at least. So he's not a vampire? The boy was holding my right hand by my elbow. I slowly moved my left hand towards the direction of the door and pointed in downwards, trying to get Tristan to understand that I was saying, 'Now.'.
I brought my ballet flats over his bare foot. He shrieked out in pain but he didn't take the knife away from my neck. There was a loud thump and the boy's hand went limp and he slid down onto the floor. Tristan had knocked him out from behind. My hand flew to my neck and I coughed.
My knees gave and I fell to the ground. "Kyra!" I heard Tristan exclaim. Tristan caught me by my shoulders and pulled me into a standing position. "Oh my god, Kyra. Don't worry. I got you." I felt the pain, slow and agonizing. I groaned and said, "It's fine, I'm fine."
"No it's not. Give me a sec. I'll tie the Leonard boy up so that he doesn't do anything crazier." Tristan said. I nodded. I found my way to the couch and I sat down. There was a tissue paper dispenser on the table beside it. I plucked a handful out and pressed it to my wound. The white was immediately stained with red. Tristan called him 'the Leonard boy', which meant that he was the one we were looking for. I wiped a good amount of blood away before Tristan returned. I lifted my head to find the boy tied up in a chair. He had snow-white hair which brushed the top of his eyebrows, fair skin and was super attractive. He was taller than me, I decided.
