My phone rang and I sat up to answer it. After escaping from Tristan, I was just lying on the bed for a while. I picked up my phone to see that mom was Facetiming me. Video call? She'd immediately know that I'm not home. I ran towards the window and set the trees as my background. I answered it.

"Hey, mom!" I awkwardly said.

"Hi Ky! Where are you?" she asked. Great! The first question that comes out of her mouth.

"At.." She knows Carla's house really well. "Adam's."

"I haven't seen those kinds of trees there." Her 'Detective Mode' was on.

"Guess you have a weak memory."

"Hmm, let me see Adam."

"Oh one sec. Adam! Come here!" I shouted loud enough for him to hear. Thank god Adam was here.

He finally came and I focused the camera on him. "Hi Chloe!" he said.

"Hi Adam! I was just checking if Kyra was telling the truth." mom said and Adam shot me a suspicious look but then said, "Of course! She's at my house." Mom finally believed me and we talked for a while. I found out that their vacation wasn't as good as they imagined. The only thing mom enjoyed was the spa treatment she went to. Apparently, the woman next to her at the spa was her neighbor in their hotel room. They were to go scuba diving the next day and visit the glowing beach on Vaadhoo Island. The next day sounded good to me. I finally hung up, not able to bear mom's rambling about the woman she met. I plopped up against the headrest and closed my eyes. After barely seconds, the door sprang open and Carla almost shouted in a squeaky voice, "I figured something out!"

I sat up and asked, "What did you figure out now? And, don't shout."

"Okay, so, the name of Katie's tíras is Kevin Collins, right?"

"Tíras?"

"Short version of sotíras. It's a long word, you know?"

"Okay, whatever. And yes, it's Kevin Collins."

"Right, just like Jacob Collins."

"Wait, do you think that they are related to each other in a way?"

"Not think, know. The other night at the charity event, he told me that he had an older brother and a younger sister. And that his brother died some years ago."

"If what you're saying is true, then did Kevin stay away from them for six years? Or even more."

"Yeah."

I was so absorbed in the conversation that I didn't notice Adam staring at us while standing in the doorway. "Hey, Adam." I said.

"Hey. So, who's this Jacob?" The look on his face almost resembled jealousy but I didn't recognise it at that moment and said, "Oh, you know, Carla went to the charity event with him."

"Because there was no one else." Carla completed.

An "Oh." was all he said.

"But I feel sorry for him now." Carla said.

Adam let out a little grunt and said, "Does everything have to be about him?" He slammed the door and marched off. I could hear the thumping of his feet until he reached the other room. I blinked a few times and said, "Was that the Angry Adam?"

"I think so." she slowly said.

"Oh my god, Carla, I am so sorry. I didn't realise you two were together."

"We're together? No! Uh, I don't know." Her face wasn't worried but was definitely not happy. I scooted closer to her and said, "I was so preoccupied about my feelings that I forgot to ask you about yours."
