Days passed. Weeks passed. We couldn't find Katie's sotíras. Then came the day when she couldn't get out of bed. I knelt down beside her and held her hand while she took her last breath. A single tear escaped my eye.
I woke up with a start to see that it wasn't even morning yet. I had a nightmare. I noticed that I was crying. Something fell down with a loud thud, because of me. Somebody quickly opened the door. It was Tristan. He saw me and asked, "What happened? Are you okay?"
"Yeah, I am. I had a nightmare. I knocked something down while sitting up. Why aren't you sleeping?" I asked as I wiped my tears away.
"I couldn't sleep. So I was just roaming around and I heard this noise. Do you mind?" he asked as he gestured towards the bed.
"Oh sure." I said and moved aside so that he could lie down.
When he did, I whispered, "Katie died in my nightmare. And I'm just too afraid that it's gonna come true."
"Hey, are you mad? I'm sorry but we just found him. All there's left is to get Katie to that address tomorrow and ask Sarah Keller about him. Um, anyways I'll go back to Jake's room in some time. He snores a lot."
"Yeah." I said and drifted off to sleep.
...
After what felt like minutes, I turned around. I felt a warm breath against my face and immediately opened my eyes. My face was merely inches away from Tristan's. I quickly went back and sighed. My heart was beating really fast. Dazzling sun rays quietly entered through my window. It should be around 8 in the morning. I looked for my phone to check the time but it was nowhere to be found. I lifted my head to check the table beside my bed and it was there. I slowly extended my hand but still couldn't reach it. I pushed myself a little up and my face was almost touching his. I finally grabbed it and started going back to my original position but I went still as soon as I saw his eyes open.
"I'm sorry, I uh, I just wanted to grab my phone." I said as I lied back down. He blinked a few times and said, "Kyra? Oh shit. I fell asleep in your room. I'm so sorry."
"That's...fine." I said and unlocked my phone. It was 9:30. "Holy crap! It's 9:30! Come on, we have to leave." I rushed out of the room and bumped into Katie who was probably coming to wake me up. It was a small bump but still, she fell down. Was it because she was weak? So weak that a little bump could knock her down? I helped her up and muttered, "Sorry." Tristan came out of my room and went downstairs. Seeing that, Katie asked, "Why is he coming out of your room?"
"He, uh, came in last night saying that he heard some noise. He lied down for a bit and fell asleep there." I said.
"That's it?" she grinned.
"Katie!" I exclaimed.
"I'm just kidding!" she said and we both headed downstairs.
As soon as I stepped down the last step, they started asking me questions. Jake said, "Kyra, do you know where my brush is?" I shrugged and said, "I don't know! Check your bag or something."
"Um, I've practically moved in here. There's no bag."
"Well, check the restroom." I shook my head and headed there myself. Before I could do that, Tristan said, "Um, Kyra? Can I have a brush?"
"Oh, sure." I said and took out a new brush from the cupboard under the stairs and gave it to him. "Thanks." he said and entered the bathroom. I sighed and started walking to just where Tristan went. I couldn't.
"What's for breakfast?" Katie asked.
"Breakfast! I know exactly what that is!" I sarcastically exclaimed.
