I silently left the living room and slid into one of the other rooms. That one seemed like it was a girl's. A full-length mirror with pictures stuck along the walls. There were a lot of books lined up on a shelf. I shut the door and leaned on it. If that boy is Isaiah, he'll do something as soon as he sees Leonard tied up. He'll think that Tristan and the others just came there. But if he sees me, he's gonna assume that I did it, which was partly true.

I heard the thumping of feet which indicated that someone entered the living room. The sound stopped. "Leonard!" an unidentified voice exclaimed as if he was more surprised than shocked. "Finally someone had the sense to tie you up. I know it's you lot and that another girl is hiding in there. Come on out, girl!"

Accepting my defeat, I stepped back into the living room to find not a worried face but a gleeful face filled with joy grinning at me. The boy had black hair with its tips coloured in blue (which looked like sparks of blue flame), and gray eyes. He had a tattoo on his forearm, shaped like a round pentagram in the centre of which was a weird-looking key with a pair of wings. Carla and Jake looked utterly shocked. Tristan, who already knew what was going on, had a tense look on his face. He looked at me and mouthed, "Did you find anything?"

I tilted my head down, hoping Tristan would catch that as a nod.

"Oh, go right ahead! Ask it out loud? This dude over here, is asking that girl over there," the other boy said, pointing to me, "'Did you find anything?'"

My mouth parted slightly, letting out a little gasp. I just knew that vamps had sharp hearing. But I didn't know how sharp. My breath trembled. Isaiah, I assumed it was him after all, was a vampire you didn't want to mess with. He studied each of our faces and finally focused on Leonard. He observed him for a while and then finally said, "You're such a disappointment, Leo. I had expected more from you. But now you've proven your weakness. You've been defeated by humans."

Leonard's expression was a mixture of anger and fear. It seemed like he struggled to control himself from snapping at Isaiah. He braced himself and said, "Not totally by humans, that one," he jerked his head in my direction, "is one of your kind."

"Aw, look at that! Leo thinks you're a vampire! How exciting, isn't it?" Isaiah said to me. I just looked away. "Well, well. You should already know that I'm the one and only Isaiah McOwens. What are you useless humans doing in my apartment?" He is Isaiah.

"FYI, this is my apartment." Leo added. Isaiah made an impatient gesture and ordered me to start answering his question.

I met Tristan's gaze. His eyes were steady but warning. That meant he wanted me to choose my words carefully. I swallowed hard once before I started, "Uh," I stopped. I took out my phone and clicked on a picture of Katie. I showed it to Isaiah. His smug expression immediately changed to a serious one. He recognises Katie!! My heart leaped in joy.

"I know you know this girl." I stated. "You must've met her in London." Isaiah held up a hand to stop me from saying anything else.

"That's Katerina Samuel." he said in a toneless voice. "And yes, I did meet her in London. I guess I did more than meet her."

"So you accept that you're her sotíras?" I blurted out.

"Tsk tsk. Patience, young girl. But yes, I do. I mean I do accept that I turned her." he replied. I gave away the effort of finding the right words to use and frantically said, "She's dying. Only your blood can save her." The world slowed down for a moment and I felt extremely dizzy. I placed a hand on the doorframe to steady myself but Tristan was already there.

"Stupid question, but, are you okay?" he asked. Despite the situation, I smiled. But before I could answer, Isaiah said, "Young mortal love. Difficult to build but easy to destroy. I feel plenty of it floating around."
