Oh god! I can't waste more of my time explaining things to another person.
"What the freaking hell is going on Kyra?" he demanded.
"Uh, what?" I asked innocently.
"Why is Katie in a situation like this? Unconscious, a bandage stuck to her leg. What happened?"
"She's not unconscious, she's just asleep. And she tripped down the stairs yesterday. That's for the bandage."
"Kyra, I'm a vampire. And I know when a human is lying." he said loud enough for Tristan, Carla and Adam to hear. "I'm so sorry. These guys don't know, do they?"
"Fortunately, they do." I said and he sighed.
"I'm sorry. Apologies are done. Now, tell me." he said. Tristan gave me a nod signaling that I can tell him so I did.
"You didn't think you had to tell me all this?" he burst out after I finished.
"I'm sorry. It's not like I've encountered supernatural incidents like this before!" I exclaimed.
He sighed and said, "I'm gonna go and see Katie." After he left, I slumped down on the couch and sighed. Tristan, Adam and Carla sat beside me. We did nothing today. So I decided to inspect the necklace which was given to Katie by her sotíras. I removed it from my neck and observed it. It was shaped like a heart and had a little keyhole to it. The key must be like a pin. I turned it around and saw some numbers engraved on it.
"There are some numbers on it." I said.
"Let me see it." Tristan said as he took the necklace from my hand. He took a close look and said, "I think it's the shop ID. If we run this, we can get the shop's address."
"And we can go check it out." I completed.
"Are we going to break into the precinct?" Carla asked. I shook my head as Adam said, "Actually, no need for that. My dad receives crap every day and he needs to check if it is true or not so he has access to literally everything on his laptop. Illegal or not."
"So there must be some online ID running website." Carla started.
"We can run the ID and get the address of the shop." Tristan said.
"And we can go there and ask questions to the shop owner." I completed.
"But my dad is practically stuck to his laptop. There is no way we're going to distract him." Adam said.
"I have an idea."
...
I rang the doorbell. Mrs.Carter opened the door and said, "Kyra! It has been a really long time since I saw you!"
"Yes, Evelyn! Where's Adam?"
"He said he was going to meet someone named Tristan." she said and Tristan appeared from behind me.
"Hello, Evelyn! I'm Tristan. I'm a friend of Carla and Kyra." he said as he extended his hand.
"Nice to meet you! I was wondering how he met you." she said and Carla appeared beside me.
"I was wondering if I could introduce Tristan to Mr.Carter." Carla asked.
"Oh, sure! He'd love to meet Adam's friends." she said as she moved behind so that they could enter. She noticed that I wasn't joining them. I purposely put my hands in front of myself so that she could see the dirt on it.
"Kyra, what happened?" she asked. The Carters have a little side garden which is always dug up by strangers. Eve hates it when people do that. But this time, I had dug it up.
"You know, your garden was dug up again, and I tried to clean it."
"Aw, thank you. You didn't have to do that though. You could've just told me. Let me see it." she said and immediately brought the tool kit. She likes to not postpone work.
"I should install security cameras and see who does this." she mumbled to herself. I helped her fix it. When I saw that the coast was clear, I signaled Adam to go inside. He nodded and went inside his house. Soon after that, I heard Mr.Carter laughing and talking to Tristan and Carla. "Optimistic Orleans was a great success! Even I enjoyed reading it." I heard Tristan say and Mr.Carter said, "You guys are really entertaining. No wonder why Adam fancies hanging out with you. Anyways, I should get back to work. Lots of letters left."
"Uh, um..uh" They stuttered and failed to hold Mr.Carter back.
"Mr.Carter!" I said.
He turned and said, "Kyra! I was about to ask these guys where you were. All good?"
Literally nothing was good but I said, "Yup! Uh, come over here. I might have a solution for the digging problem." He hurried over to where I was. Even though he was a newspaper editor, he loved plants.
"You should plant tulips at that spot. They're seasonal. Needs less care. And blooms at intervals."
"Hmm, good idea!" he said and started to leave.
"Uh, pink or yellow?" I asked.
"Pink!" Eve said and Mr.Carter said, "Yellow!" I knew they would clash. They started arguing with each other. I slowly escaped from there and went inside to wash my hands.
"You really know a lot about them." Tristan said.
"Yeah. Well, I practically grew up with them so..."
"Right." he said. Mr.Carter returned to his office and Adam rushed out of it.
Everybody looked at him in suspense. "I got it!" he said and we chorused, "Yes!"
"It's an antique store called 'Old West Antiques'. It's somewhere near the famous ice cream shop. Freezing Brains or something?"
"I've been there." Carla said.
"To the antique store?" we chorused.
"Of course not. I went to Freezing Brains last month." she said grinning.
"Great! So you know the address! We also have the original address for reference. When are we going there?" Tristan asked.
"Um, guys?" I said. "This is about me and my sister. You don't need to come. I'm not forcing you. So, if you don't want to come, then don't."
"Are you serious? Of course I'm coming." Tristan said.
"Kyra! Katie is our friend. No matter what, I'm joining you." Carla said.
"I might be a lot terrified of her and her friend, but I ain't going anywhere without helping her." Adam said and I pulled them all into a group hug and said, "Thank you." They waved it off.
"But I've got to mention that your plan was brilliant, Kyra!" Tristan said and I laughed. Yep. It was my idea.
"Anyways, my parents are leaving on a vacation to the Maldives. They're leaving tomorrow morning so we can go after that." I said and everybody nodded.
"Uh, that would be my excuse, what about yours?" I asked.
"My mom knows everything so I needn't give her a reason." Tristan said.
"Uh, I'll tell them we're going on a road trip." Adam said.
"Yeah! I'll tell my mom the same. Road trip!" Carla said. And there was nothing else to do but pack and wait for mom and dad to leave.
