After much argument on who should ring the bell, we decided that it would be Katie. She reluctantly pressed the bell. A young girl about nineteen or twenty opened the door and said, "Who's there?"
"Carla." "Tristan." "Jake." "Adam." "Katie." They introduced themselves. I grunted loudly and said, "Kyra." We agreed not to reveal our true identities until we know that we can trust them.
Her eyes went wide and then she said, "Are you more of Kevin's friends?" Kevin's friends? That means she knows Kevin! I took it as an advantage and replied, "Yes. Speaking of, where is Kevin? Wait, are you Sarah?"
"Yeah, I am Sarah. And Kevin, he's somewhere else. He's on a road trip to Natchitoches. I think he's coming back tomorrow morning. Come in." Tomorrow morning? I thought Katie will be alright by tonight, I thought. We went and placed all of our backpacks and bags down on the floor. I looked out the window and found a basketball court. I hadn't played basketball in weeks. I had to cancel practice because high school took up a lot of my time. I asked myself to allot some time for that, if I had some.
"Upstairs, there are three rooms. Divide it as you wish. Lunch will be ready in an hour." Sarah snapped. She sounded so rude. We ventured upstairs. The girls had one room and the boys had one. The left out one was used to store our luggage. The next hour went really fast. We headed down for lunch. Sarah had ordered pasta and meatballs. It.Was.Delicious. I ate till my stomach couldn't take anymore. "It would be nice if everyone brought their dishes to the sink." Sarah said and went to the kitchen. Her phone rang. I picked it up and rushed into the kitchen along with my plate and cutlery. I handed her the phone and she didn't care to say thank you. I put my dishes in the sink and left. Sarah's conversation with the person on the phone got heated because she yelled, "I absolutely despise you! You are not the one that's going to take care of it all! And now you don't even remember inviting them over. By the way, I'm not sorry." I wasn't eavesdropping, she yelled so loud that all of us could hear.
"Guys, let's go upstairs." I said. Everyone nodded and went upstairs. Katie, Carla and I were talking to each other for a while. After some time, someone knocked on the door. I said, "Come in." It was Sarah.
"I'm sorry about everything that happened. I get angry easily. It's just that Kevin owns this house and he doesn't bother to take care of it. I do all the work. A lot of his friends have visited this place. He says he doesn't even remember inviting you guys. Anyways, he's coming back tomorrow morning at 9. Just thought you should know." she said.
"Uh, yeah." I said and gave her an awkward look. She waved and left. It was almost 4 when I asked Carla, "I'm gonna play basketball. Care to join?"
"Ooh! It's been a while! Of course I'm coming." she said and we waved goodbye to Katie. I changed into some loose pants. We stepped out onto the porch and then towards the court. I noticed that the court was the backyard. I grabbed a ball from the rack that was kept there, dribbled it thrice and threw it. I scored.
"You're still you." Carla commented.
"Let's see if you are you." I said and threw the ball to her. The ball entered the hoop with ease.
"You are." I said and we laughed. We played for a while. Then Carla said, "I'm gonna get myself something to drink." It seemed like an excuse.
"Thirsty already?"
"Well, it has been a while since we played. All my energy is drained." she said, sarcastically. Why? I saw her walk away. I took the ball in my hand and moved back to try a shot from behind the three point line. I shouldn't be appreciating myself, but I aced it.
