Chapter 48

Even though out loud I sounded like I was half convinced that we should go back to Tristan's house and be with Katie, inside, I was screaming and kicking at myself when we left. Tristan drove as no one seemed enthusiastic about going back. I sat in the passenger seat with Carla and Jake behind me. I tried to not focus on what was happening but I knew that that wasn't going to happen. So I thought about something else, something not so tragic. I closed my eyes and imagined a world where nothing was wrong. Katie was fine. She was staying with us in New Orleans and everything was going alright. But then my subconscious mind took over. It brought characters from all the Netflix series and movies I had ever seen. The first part was vague but the second part was crystal clear. I saw Lucifer Morningstar (From Lucifer) fighting with Niklaus Mikaelson (From The Originals). Both of them were really powerful. It looked like no one was going to lose until Thanos (From Avengers) stepped in and stopped them.

I realised I was daydreaming. The truth really really sucks just like Lunatic Leonard had said. I felt a hand on my lap. My head turned towards the left to see Tristan.

"You alright?" he asked. I simply nodded. "Uh, we're..." After a short pause, he continued, "almost there." Was it good or bad? I didn't know. I thought about what I'd tell Katie. What I'd do with the time we had left. How I'll stay with her when she- My phone rang. I picked it up immediately. It was Adam.

"Hello Adam." I said.

"Kyra, where are you? Did you get it? The blood?" I closed my eyes. I didn't want to answer that question.

"Uh what did you say? I didn't catch you." But I did not give him time to repeat. I went on. "Anyways, we're almost there. I'll talk to you in person then How's Katie?"

"She-" Adam's voice started breaking and I could understand absolutely nothing.

"Adam, the signal is too weak. I can't hear you." This time, it was true. "I'm hanging up." I said and did just that.

"Anything new?" Carla asked.

"No." I crisply replied. The French Quarter rose up ahead of us and that's when I realised how close 'almost there' was. I stiffened up. Tristan stopped the car right outside his house. No one got out. After a few minutes of sitting in silence, I opened the car door and stepped out. Carla reluctantly pulled the car handle and climbed out. Jake came down after her. Tristan turned off the engine and walked towards us. We stared at the door, not prepared to bear the sight of Katie. I brought my hand up to knock when the door opened. Tracy stood there, her eyes full of unasked questions.

"Come on in." Tracy said. She hurried us inside and shut the door behind us. Tristan's house was just as I remembered it. I hadn't been there since Halloween. I marched up to Tristan's room, thinking Katie would be there.

"She's over here." Adam said, pointing to Jude's room. "Although I wouldn't advise-" I didn't know what he was going to advise as I already started walking and pulled the door open. I couldn't see Katie. The door slammed shut behind me.

I heard Adam shout, "Kyra! She's really not herself! Get out!" I saw who shut the door. It was Katie. She had her devil face on, giving me goosebumps. She locked the door and turned towards me. Everyone must've gathered there because I heard a commotion going on. Katie's fangs popped out and I took several steps back.

I said, loud enough for everyone outside to hear, "Uh guys? I think my sister is going to bite me." My voice rose as she walked towards me. "Help!"

"Get this damn door open!" someone cried. Someone constantly pounded on the door. But all that didn't seem to bother Katie as she was striding towards me with immense speed. I backed up until I hit the wall. I had never been so afraid of my own sister. My heart beat so fast and loud that I was sure Katie could hear it like the beating of a drum considering she had vamp hearing. Her left hand cleared my hair, leaving my neck uncovered. "IF YOU'RE GOING TO BREAK THE DOOR NOW'S THE TIME!" I shouted.
