A/N : Takes place during book 2 in chapter 5 after Chiron leaves

Getting Tyson to stop crying was easy enough. Titan knows Percy had enough experience with calming the cyclops down during the school year. Besides, he wasn't actually too upset, he was mainly just crying because Annabeth was. All Percy had to do was give him an awkward hug, tell him it would be okay, and then tell him to go down to where the campers were having dinner.

Annabeth was the tricky one.

It's not like Percy had never seen her upset before. He definitely had a few times during their quest the previous year. But, to see her full on sobbing... That was new, and it worried him. Of course she was gonna be upset! Chiron had practically been her father since she was 7 years old, and now he was leaving. That must've stung.

"It'll be okay" Percy tried to reassure, but that didn't seem to help at all. "No it won't, Percy!" Annabeth shouted in response, and Percy had to ignore the sharp feeling in his heart as she said that. "Nothing about this is okay!" she continued. "The tree is dying, the camp is vulnerable, and now Chiron's being sent out and I..." she trailed off, willing herself to take a deep breath. "What if he isn't allowed back, Percy?" she asked solemnly after a moment. "His immortality only lasts so long as he works here"

"Hey, don't think like that" Percy told her, stern but gentle. "He'll come back. Just give it time" he attempted to reassure, though he didn't entirely believe it himself.

Annabeth didn't say anything after that, instead just allowing the boy in front of her to hold her while she cried. It felt like her entire world was falling apart, and she didn't know how to handle it. This camp had always been the one place where she could be herself. She didn't have that with her dad and stepmom. And now her safe haven was coming apart at the seams.

She almost never cried at this point. After all she had been through, it took a lot to even get her eyes a bit misty. But here she was, sobbing into the arms of a kid who she should hate considering their parents history (sins of the fathers and whatnot). She felt a little bit silly, but at that moment she was just kinda glad to not be alone. "Thanks, Percy" she said once her sobs died down. "Any time" Percy replied with a small smile.

"Now" he stood up. "Let's go get dinner and try to temporarily forget about all this"
