A/N : Takes place post season 2 (no Halloween special because we don't acknowledge that shit in this household)
Emma found herself needing to sleep next to someone ever since Kieran was outed as the killer. If she didn't have someone with her there to serve as a sort of guard, that left her vulnerable to more harm, and it stressed her out. She quickly realized that the one person she would trust with that was the very same person who brought Piper to Lakewood in the first place.
Audrey Jensen.
Audrey had no problem staying over at her place for this purpose- She was already over there a lot of the time because her dad never paid attention to her at home. Plus, they were dating now... That was a whole thing in itself but now isn't the time to get into that.
It soon became pretty routine : Audrey would go to school, hang out at Noah's place for awhile afterwards, then go to Emma's around dinnertime to eat with her and her mom. Maggie grew used tp the girl coming over, and she didn't even mind her sleeping in the same bed as Emma because she knew it was the only way her daughter would get any sleep. Audrey appreciated her for that.

The short haired girl crawled into bed with her girlfriend, who was already curled up under the covers. "Hey" Emma said quietly, turning over to look at the other girl. "Hey" Audrey responded with a small smile that made Emma's heart flutter. "Are you holding up okay?"
"I'm not gonna fall apart, Audrey" Emma replied, a forced and slightly annoyed smile on her face. "I..." Audrey looked away, feeling guilty. "I wasn't trying to imply that. I'm sorry" she apologized. "I was just checking on you"
Emma sighed. "You didn't do anything wrong, don't apologize. I'm just..." A breath. "I had a very bad dream last night- I think you slept through it- And I'm really not wanting to have another nightmare" she explained, her voice slightly shaky. Audrey sighed.
"I'm sorry I didn't wake up, Em" she said with a slightly guilty expression on her face. "I know I'm usually on top of that, but yesterday was really tiring with midterms and everything. I'm sorry"
"That's the thing, though : I don't want that to be your responsibility, because it really shouldn't be" Emma responded. "You need rest just as much as I do. It's not fair to you that I am constantly disrupting your sleep with my nightmares" She ran a stressed hand through her hair. Audrey cautiously put an arm around her.
"Em, you wake up during mine too" she said flatly. "Is it fair to either of us? No. But life isn't fair. You know that just as well as I do" She gave a small, tired chuckle. "This town has had 3 mass murders- All of which affected your family and 2 of which directly affected both of us" she ranted. "It sucks. The nightmares suck. It all sucks" She took a deep breath. "But I'm here for you, okay?" Emma nodded.
"Good. Now, stop worrying so much and get some rest"
----------
Audrey opened her eyes to find herself in a pitch black room, a dim light coming from somewhere above her. She could walk around without stumbling or anything, but it was still unnerving. The room seemed to just go on forever and ever.
She suddenly felt her phone buzzing in her pocket, so she pulled it out only to see that she was receiving a call from an unknown number. She felt her heart drop into her stomach as she shakily clicked the answer button.
"Hello?" she asked, managing to keep on an unaffected tone. "Hey, killer" an all too familar voice replied. It was just the voice from the app that Piper, Kieran, and even Audrey herself had used, but it still managed to strike complete and utter fear into her heart.
"What do you want?" she asked angrily. The voice chuckled in response. "So angry. No wonder Emma hates you" he taunted. Audrey felt a sting in her heart at that. "She doesn't hate me anymore" she objected. "We worked through that. She understands. I didn't know Piper was the killer!"
The voice laughed and then the call ended. Audrey was breathing quite heavily at this point, but surely it was over, right? Wrong.
A familiar figure came into view. It was the same costume that Brandon James wore during his killings. The same that Piper wore. The same that Kieran wore. Hell, even that stupid kid who chased Audrey around the movie theater had worn the outfit. The figure tilted its head and then pulled two chairs into view.
Emma was strapped down in one. Noah was strapped down in the other.
Audrey wanted to run up and tackle the figure but quickly realized that she was unable to move. It walked up to her and handed her a gun. She recognized it to be the very same gun she had shot Piper with only a few years ago. She held it shakily and then returned her gaze to the figure, who she now realized matched her height perfectly. Then, she heard her own voice come from it as it spoke.
"Shoot one and the other gets to live" it instructed. "Shoot neither and they both die. You have ten seconds"
Suddenly, a bright red timer (like the kind you would see on an alarm clock) appeared above Emma and Noah, counting down from ten. Audrey looked hopelessly between the two of them. These were the two most important people in her life, and she loved them both equally (though in different ways obviously). Now, she had to either kill one of them or watch them both get shot by another's hand. And she was running out of time...
Three.
Two.
One.
----------
She bolted awake with a scream in a cold sweat, her heart racing a mile a minute. Nausea wracked her body but she managed to not let it evolve into anything more than just the feeling. It was only as she tried to focus on her rapid breathing that she processed the arms wrapped around her and the soft, familiar voice murmuring quiet reassurances into her ear. "Shhh" Emma shushed her gently. "You're okay. You're safe. I'm safe. Everyone's safe"
Audrey found herself clinging against her girlfriend like her life depended on it, but Emma didn't seem to mind. "I-I thought..." the panicked girl trailed off, unable to form her words properly.
"You don't have to explain" Emma assured her gently, holding onto her a little bit tighter. "The important part is that you're safe now" she continued, running her hand through Audrey's short hair in a soothing motion. "Piper's gone. Kieran's gone. No one's gonna hurt us. It's okay"
"But it's NOT okay!" Audrey cried out. When had she started crying? "Cause she- he- they- it? It was gonna kill you and Noah" she shakily tried to explain. "Or I was! But it was making me choose- I don't want to choose, Em" She clinged to Emma more. "You don't have to" the other girl reassured quietly. "It wasn't real, Audrey... Can you look around and tell me five things you see?"
...
"What?"
"Tell me five things you see" Emma coaxed again with a gentle tone that helped the panicked girl to focus a little bit. "Uh..." Audrey looked around the room and swallowed. "I see the blankets" she said, her breathing beginning to slow a tiny bit. "I- I see you. There's um... There's your r- ridiculous teddy bear collection" They shared a small chuckle. "Y- Your night stand and... The walls?"
"That works" Emma replied. "Are you feeling better?" she asked. Audrey took a deep breath and nodded, to which the two then fell into a momentary silence.
"Sorry for waking you" Audrey finally said in a small, slightly fragile voice. "It's okay" Emma replied softly. "You'd do the same for me. I understand"
"I love you, Em"
"I love you too, Audrey"
