A/N : Takes place post canon. Vaguely inspired by Silco and Jinx's dynamic in Arcane. Tw for child abuse (physical and verbal), child neglect, starvation, self induced starvation, and violence

It was quite late in the night when Johnny began to hear shouts and slams coming from the neighboring house. He sighed. The kid had probably crossed his father in some minor way and was now being punished for existing. A peak out through boarded windows confirmed that the only light on was the one for Squee's room.

Johnny took a deep breath, grabbed his knife, and walked out of the house.

----------

He snucked over to Squee's window, where he was able to listen in.

"Fuckin' worthless burden on my goddamn life!" the father yelled, followed by the sound of a beer bottle shattering and a frightened "Squee!"

Johnny felt anger grow in his stomach as he gripped his knife a bit tighter. He was never slow to anger, but Squee's dad had always been one of the quickest to piss him off.

He opened the window slowing, hoping the dad wouldn't hear it. Ever since he had been blinded, his hearing was way sharper. Thankfully, he didn't notice as Johnny entered the room, a finger over his mouth to urge Squee not to alert his father.

Johnny was only going to knock out the guy, but then he saw him lean forward to try and strangle the kid and he blacked out.

Next thing he knew, he was standing over the dead body of Squee's father, a very obvious stab would bleeding out from the side of his neck. Squee was shaking and crying as he frantically looked up and down between Johnny and his dad's blood soaked corpse. If his mom heard anything, she didn't care enough to check.

"Sorry about this, kid" Johnny said, seemingly unbothered by the fact that he had just killed a man. This wasn't exactly his first rodeo. "I wasn't planning on killing him, honest" he continued. "I'd tell you if I was. I'm not really one to lie to little kids. Come to think of it, I haven't killed anyone since that weird admirer showed up" he said with a small chuckle.

"Anyways, I should probably be on my merry way. I'll take the body with me, don't worry" he assured the small child, who still seemed absolutely mortified. "Lord knows a kid shouldn't be blamed for his dad's passing, especially not you. You are far too decent a person to be jailed so early on, Squee"

"Wait, neighbor man?" Squee asked, his voice quivering as he held on tightly to Shmee. "Yes?" Johnny replied as he pushed the corpse out the window. "What do I do now?" the kid asked, causing Johnny to stop in his tracks.

He hadn't thought that far ahead, and why would he? He didn't plan on killing the kid's dad, but now he had done it. He also realized that his mom was far too neglectful to care for him, meaning that this innocent child would probably starve to death under her watch.

He really only had two options now- Get the kid in the foster care system or care for the child himself.

Ideally he could do the former, but the more he thought about it, the more he realized how unrealistic that was. Even if the foster system wasn't a complete mess, they probably wouldn't accept him anyway unless Johnny could prove the mom was unfit to parent him. And there was no way he could talk to that many people and not incriminate himself.

He sighed.

"Well, Squee" he kneeled down to match the kid's height. "It looks like I'm gonna be your new dad, huh? What a turn of events!"

The next morning, Johnny was in his living room, working on his comic when suddenly he saw the small figure of Squee enter the room with Shmee in his hand. "Hello, Squee" the man said in a gentle tone, though his focus didn't break away from his drawing.

"W- What is for breakfast?" the child asked, his voice still full of fear. Johnny looked up at him and once again realized just how unprepared he was for all of this.

He almost never ate until it was strictly necessary for survival, so it's not like he kept food in the house. But he also knew he couldn't just starve the kid- That was the very reason he didn't leave him with his mother. He heard the weird burger guy mutter something about input and had to resist the urge to start screaming at it.

"You need food. Right" Johnny said with a small chuckle that made Squee hold onto his plush tighter. "Well, then" Johnny stood up and walked over to the kid, who forced himself not to run away in fear. "We can hit up a restaurant- You know what's around here, so it's your choice- Then we can go rob a corner store so you can have some foor in the fridge, okay?"

"Wait, really?" Squee asked, visibly surprised. His parents hardly ever fed him (let alone allow him to choose whatever he wanted), so the fact that his scary neighbor was being considerate like this blew his mind. Maybe his new life wouldn't be completely scarring...

"Yes, Squee" Johnny replied with a small smile that almost made the kid forget what the man had done. "As I said, I don't typically lie to kids. You should pay attention more, okay? Now, let's go get you food"
