A/N : There aren't enough FTM!Ekko fics so here we are. Also apparently Ekko is traditionally a feminine name? Like, the origin of it is a (female) nymph from Greek mythology. Which I did not know prior to right now. But that only strengthens my headcanon. She/her pronouns are used for Ekko until he comes out btw

To the kids living in the basement of The Last Drop, Ekko was a friend. The one who gave them tips about places to raid. The little girl who lived with Benzo, giving time and hard work to the shop in exchange for a place to stay. That's all the kid was to Vi, Claggor, and Mylo.

However, to Powder, she was a little bit more than just a friend. The two of them were young, and neither quite understood the feelings they had when they were around each other, but it was there. They were "a little too sentimental to be just buddies", as Mylo had once put it.

Powder found herself sneaking off to hang out with Ekko more and more. It bothered Vi, who would rather her sister not randomly vanish during the night, but she knew better than to try and stop it. Besides, that would make her a bit of a hypocrite. She was no stranger to sneaking off herself.

"Why did you want to see me tonight?" Powder asked as she approached her and her friend's meetup spot behind some old crates. Ekko seemed a little on edge, which was rather out of character. She was always super outgoing, so to see her so reserved was an immediate alarm.

"Sit down, please" she requested, running a hand across her scalp, feeling her short, white hair as a way to soothe herself. Powder did as she was told and sat next to Ekko on the ground, fidgeting with her hands to avoid making Ekko feel too watched.

"I have something I want to tell you, because you're my friend and I like you" Ekko started. Powder nodded, glancing at her. "Of course!" the blue haired girl responded enthusiastically. "I always listen- Just ask Claggor. The amount of rants from him that I have sat through-"

"I'm a boy"

...

"Is that what you wanted to tell me?" Powder asked slowly, looking at her friend with wide eyes. Ekko just nodded, avoiding her- His friend's gaze. Up until this point, he hadn't really been worried about rejection. The Undercity was pretty open to every type of person, just because that's where every type of person wound up if they weren't liked by Piltover.

However, in this moment, his heart was beating a mile a minute.

Suddenly, Ekko felt a slender embrace around him and looked down to see Powder hugging him. "Is that okay?" Ekko asked, unable to keep the fragility out of his voice. Powder pulled away from him with a confused look. "Of course it's okay" she told him. "Why would it not be?"

"It's just, you know..." he trailed off, scratching at the back of his neck nervously. "It's not like... I'm not like Claggor or Mylo" he explained vaguely. "I'm more like you? I look more like you than either of them"

"That doesn't matter" Powder assured him with a kind smile. "If you say you're a boy, then you're a boy. I don't understand why that would change much aside from us just changing what we call you- Wait, do you want us to call you something different?"

"No, Ekko is good" he responded with a nervous chuckle. "I like it. It's a good name"

"Well then, Ekko" Powder started, standing up and holding out a hand to help the boy up. "Looks like we have another boy savior in town. Me and Vi are officially outnumbered"

Ekko smiled at her with a smile no one else got from him.

"That you are"
