Jack walked down to the living area of the Lodging House to find Les sitting on top of Race's shoulders, trying to reach up to the ceiling.

"Um, hello?" he greeted them.

Race waved, too concentrated on making sure Les didn't fall to talk.

Les on the other hand was nowhere near as concentrated as Race.

"Hi Jack," he exclaimed happily.

Jack smiled at the young boy's energy.

"What are you two doing?"

Race didn't answer him, instead grabbing firmly onto Les' feet since the younger boy seemed determined to not stay still.

"We're decorating," he stated as if it were the most obvious thing ever.

In all fairness to him, it was the most obvious thing ever.

"I can see that but why?" Jack asked.

Race turned around and shot Jack a look, trying to telepathically pass the message onto Jack to stop asking questions.

He didn't mind the questions themselves but it was more so the fact that Les lacked the capability to stay still while talking that mildly annoyed him.

Jack could see that Race was probably going to be able to hold Les up there for much longer.

"Why don't you come down from Race's shoulders? I'm taller so you can get even higher," he suggested.

Les nodded eagerly and held his arms out for Jack to lift him.

Jack lifted him off of Race's shoulders and put the boy on the ground.

He was surprised Race had managed to keep him up there for so long.

Les wasn't heavy, Jack could lift him easily but Race wasn't as strong as Jack.

He was fast, sure, but fast doesn't help when you need to lift a tall child.

Jack was about to lift Les onto his own shoulders when Davey walked out of the room they had been in previously, trying to flatten his hair.

"What is happening?" he asked no one in particular.

Jack and Race shared a look before Jack carefully put Les back onto the ground.

"Nothing," Jack mumbled while looking down at the floor.

Davey nodded and walked over to Jack.

"I can tell your lying but I want a hug," he declared, wrapping his arms around Jack. "But you better tell the truth once we're finished."

Jack nodded into his shoulder and kissed him softly on his jawline, he would have kissed his lips but Davey is too tall for him.

They pulled away after a few minutes and Davey looked at Jack expectantly.

"We're decorating," he said while doing jazz hands in the direction of the decorations.

Les huffed and pushed Jack out of the way.

"He didn't do any decorating, me and Race did it all," he explained.

Davey sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. "It's Race and I," he mumbled in annoyance.

Les shrugged his shoulders to make his lack of caring known to him.

"Just don't drop Les, please," he told them.

They all nodded and as he walked off started giggling like a group of schoolgirls.

They got back to decorating which went just about as well as you can imagine.

Les convinced almost all of the other Newsies to join in on the decorating and told them exactly what and where they were meant to put up specific decorations.

Jack and Davey kept an eye over them all and made sure nobody got hurt.

The Lodging House was quickly decorated and in celebration the Newsies all gathered in the living area to admire their work.

Sure they weren't much but the Newsies couldn't be happier about them.

They'd mostly used some old papers and cut them into shape and tied them up with twine, threads and anything else they could find.

Les put all of his determination into making a long chain to hang around all of the Lodging House.

He refused to let anyone but Jack help him.

Jack was his favourite of his Newsie brothers and he took as an opportunity to give him a serious talk about what he'd do if Jack ever hurt Davey.

They all stayed up late that night, chatting, making paper aeroplanes to throw at each other and being generally chaotic.
