Race curled in on himself as sobs racked his body.

"Race, are you okay?" Jack asked through the bedroom door.

Race knew he shouldn't have shut his bedroom door. It was a sure way to let everyone else know that he wasn't okay.

"I'm fine, Jack."

"Are you sure? You don't sound fine."

"I am fine. Go away," Race shouted as he turned around so he was facing the wall and away from the doorway.

There was silent for a little while, which is all the Race wanted before there was another knock on the door.

"Go away, Jack." Race felt somewhat bad, he hadn't meant to sound as mean as he did when he spoke. "I don't want to talk to you."

"What's going on, baby?" Medda asked.

"Nothing. I just wanna be alone."

"Okay. If you ever need to talk, I'll be here."

"Sure, Momma."

Medda sighed. "I love you, Toni."

Race choked on a sob and shoved a pillow over his head to quieten the cries. For a while it was silent, aside from his cries, and he didn't know how he felt about it.

On one hand, he was happy to be on his own but he didn't want to be alone.

"Hey, Racer," Race froze at Albert's voice. "Can me and Spot come in?"

"I don't want you to see me like this," Race sniffled.

"We don't care how you look," Spot promised. "We just want you to be okay."

"I guess you can come in."

The door opened with a loud creak and Spot and Albert looked at the lump under the covers that was Race.

Or they presumed it's Race, his duvet was pulled up to his head and his head was covered by his pillow.

"Oh, Racer," Albert said sadly. "What's up?"

"Nothing." Race lifted the pillow off his head and moved so he was sitting with his back against the wall.

"It ain't nothing. You're sobbing like someone died," Spot pointed out.

Race started sobbing harder and Spot immediately regretted what he said.

"Sorry. Are you okay with physical contact right now?" Spot asked.

Race nodded and let Albert and Spot sit beside him on the bed and wrap him up in their arms.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Albert offered. "It always helps."

"I miss Momma."

"Miss Medda was in the kitchen when we got here," Albert said. "We can get her. Or bring you to her."
