German Sucks but Specs is a Good Boyfriend
Ship - Spromeo
Era - Modern
Triggers - None

German was not fun, Romeo had decided quickly. It had only been a month since he'd started learning it and he regretted the decision. Davey had said it was like English so his not-language-orientated brain would find it easier than French or Spanish or Italian. Romeo trusted Davey.

Romeo was stupid to trust a guy who spoke four languages at the age of four.

At least Specs tried to help him. Even if Specs did study French.

"You're doing great, Ro," Specs promised him as they were sat on Romeo's bed. "Just the months again and then we can take a break."

"No," Romeo cried. Slowly and slowly, as they'd been revising his vocab, he kept getting more and more worked up with himself for making minor mistakes. Specs thought they were understandable but Romeo didn't share that opinion.

"Come on, Romeo, you've got them all down. You just need to trust yourself."

Romeo shook his head and stood up, causing all his notes to fall to the ground and slide across the wooden floor.

"Wait." Specs moved the textbook from his lap and stood up to follow after Romeo, who had stormed out of the room. "Romeo, wait."

Romeo didn't wait.

By the time Specs caught up with him, he had walked out of the house and was sitting on the kerb with his head in his hands.

Specs sat down beside Romeo, leaving a small gap in between for Romeo's personal space. "What's wrong, Ro? I know it isn't just German that's upsetting you."

"I'm stupid. I'm failing this stupid German class and I'm just a stupid idiot. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid."

Specs grabbed Romeo's wrists as gently as he could to get his boyfriend to stop hitting himself.

"You're not stupid, I promise. Who told you that?"

Romeo kicked a stone. "Who do you think?"

"The Delanceys?" Specs offered. Romeo's nod confirmed the suspicion.

"And Weasel too."

Specs sighed and gently intertwined his fingers with Romeo's. "I'm so sorry."

"Isn't your fault."

"Would doing something other than studying make you feel better? Maybe go get ice-cream."

Romeo shrugged them reminded Specs, "It's October."

"So what? Come on, I'm paying."

Specs took Romeo's hands and pulled him up from the ground. "You wait here. I'll get your coat and shoes."

Romeo looked down at his feet and laughed at the realisation that he had nothing but his favourite red socks in his feet.

"I'll get my shoes and tell Sister Josephine were going out," Romeo told Specs. He didn't want to stand on the streets of New York without shoes on. That was extremely unsanitary.
