***Third Person View - Focusing on Alcina Dimitrescu***
Alcina made her way to her study. The night had been more eventful than she had expected. Her maiden, Y/N, has been struggling as of recent. Undergoing mutations caused by the blood transfusion she needed to save her life. The mutations were subtle at first, only causing harmless changes in the maiden. Now, however, things are getting more serious. It seemed to Alcina that her maiden was now experiencing a hunger for human blood. Alcina was aware that more side effects from the transfusion could occur, but the thirst for blood was not expected.
Alcina arrived in her study. She placed herself in front of her desk, preparing to make a phone call to Mother Miranda. If Y/N hadn't been fast asleep in Alcina's bed, she would have just made the call in her chamber. But, what she was about to discuss with Mother Miranda would have sent Y/N spiraling back into her seclusion. Alcina had just managed to get Y/N to open up this evening. She didn't want to risk upsetting her again. Besides, there were things that even Alcina needed answers to first before Y/N could be included.
Alcina lit a cigarette and took a drag. Her eyes closed as the smoke filled her mouth. She held it in for a moment, savoring its sting. After releasing the smoke, causing the room to become foggy, she sighed and picked up the phone. Mother Miranda was not Alcina's favorite person to talk to, but there was no avoiding this conversation. Alcina needed to see if Mother Miranda had found a cure for her sweet maiden.
"Speak." Mother Miranda answered the phone. Alcina could hear the clear frustration in her voice.
"Mother Miranda, it's Alcina."
"Why are you calling at such a late hour? Don't you have maidens to drain?"
"Mother, I have some unexpected news. It's Y/N She-" Mother Miranda cut her off.
"Last I knew she had nearly unleashed her powers on your daughters." Mother Miranda said. "I do hope you put her in her place after that. A maiden should never act against their superiors."
"Yes Mother, I did. She spent a week in the dungeon. I allowed the girls to torture her as they wished. She learned her lesson." Alcina lied. "Mother Miranda, how is your research coming along? Have you managed to find a cure yet?" Alcina asked, hoping to receive a positive answer.
"Research is slow moving. I have not successfully found a solution yet. This is something that has never been done. I wouldn't need to be spending my precious time researching this if you would have just let the human die, Alcina. She was of no importance to you." Mother Miranda was growing irritated.
"Mother, I couldn't just let her die. I would not have been ab-" Alcina was cut off yet again.
"Yes, Alcina, you could have let her die. How many times am I going to have to do these senseless favors for you!? What do I get in return, huh? Not a damn thing. I have done so much for you and you have done nothing for me. Find me a host for Eva, and I will find a cure for your precious fair maiden." The line went silent.
Alcina hung up the phone and sighed. That did not go how she wanted it to. Alcina didn't even get the chance to inform Mother Miranda about Y/N's new mutation. Without a cure, Alcina feared that Y/N would only continue to change. She didn't want her maiden to suffer, just as she had herself - all those years ago. Alcina picks up the phone once more.
"Donna, it's Alcina."
"Sister! How are you? How is Y/N? I haven't heard from either of you in quite some time." Donna greets Alcina in her normal chipper voice.
"I am doing well. Y/N on the other hand... she's struggling. The blood transfusion has caused her to mutate, just as we thought it might. However, I fear she is mutating more than we had expected. At first, her body grew more agile and powerful. She also has limited capability to control her emotions, often leading to unpredictable outbursts. But tonight... tonight was different. She's grown a hunger for blood. I could see it in her eyes, feel it in her body. Once I gave her some of my wine, I could see the creature in her retreat." Alcina proceeded to tell Donna the whole story. Donna was just as concerned as Alcina after hearing about their evening.
"Alcina... you don't think the Cadou could be taking over just as it did to you, me and the other lords... do you?"
"No. I refuse to believe that. I've asked Mother Miranda to find Y/N a cure."
"Has she been successful?" Donna asked.
Alcina lets out a disappointing sigh.
"No, she hasn't. In fact, she's refused to find Y/N a cure until a host is found for Eva."
"Alcina, we will make sure we get that cure. One way or another."
"I truly hope so. I can't stand to see Y/N suffer much longer."
"I will try to find some leads on a host for Mother Miranda. Until then, continue protecting your maiden. She's in good hands."
Alcina and Donna say their goodbyes and hang up. So far, Alcina has gotten none of the answers she had hoped for. She just wanted to protect her maiden, keep her safe. Until a cure was found, Alcina knew she needed to do everything in her power to contain the beast lurking inside her maiden. It wasn't going to be easy, nor enjoyable, but it needed to be done.
Alcina returned to her bedchamber. Y/N was peaceful resting, curled in a nest of sheets and fur blankets. Alcina smiled at the view of her maiden finally resting. After all, she was going to need it. Things were only going to get harder from here.
Alcina curled up next to her maiden, pulling her close. At Alcina's touch, Y/N snuggled into her, finding comfort in Alcina's warmth. Alcina kissed her cheek.
"My fair maiden, I will do anything in my power to protect you. If it seems as though I'm being too hard on you, I'm sorry. What's to come next is for your own good. I can't let you turn into a monster... Like me. I will do whatever it takes, even if it makes you despise me." Alcina whispered to herself.
Alcina wrapped her arms around her maiden, more for her own comfort rather than Y/N's. She couldn't explain it, but having her maiden next to her made her feel content. Alcina's parasitic life had been filled with nothing but anger, violence, and sorrow. Ever since Y/N came into her life, she's noticed those things start to fade. For some unknowing reason, Y/N made Alcina feel almost human again.
