You lay in your cell, body curled on a hard cot. Your mind is strangely blank, not a single thought running through it. You mindlessly watch a spider weave a web in the corner of two joining walls as you wait for Mother Miranda to collect you for your afternoon check up.

You're not sure how you got here, nor are you aware of where you even came from. Mother Miranda had told you you were found in a forest, completely unconscious. She claimed you had been so badly hurt that she wasn't sure you were going to survive. Unfortunately, you had a strong case of amnesia once you finally came around. You were informed that your memories may return, but it was highly unlikely. The only thing you know is your name. It feels like there are faint memories that linger within your mind, but none of them are clear to you.

As you continue to watch the spider gracefully defy gravity, you hear slow footsteps approach. You gradually sit up, turning to the door of your cell. The woman you've come to know as Mother Miranda stands before you, twisting a key in the lock of your cell. She slides the door open, giving you a faint smile. This woman is strange. Seemingly lacking in people skills. However, she does try to make you feel comfortable in her presence.

"How are you feeling this afternoon, Y/N?" She asks, stepping into your cell and placing herself directly in front of you.

"I think I'm feeling okay." You shrug.

"You think?" She questions.

"I'm never really sure of much." You tell her. "It feels as though I'm relearning how to ... be. If that makes any sense."

"All things considered, I'd say you're doing quite well." She softly smiles down at you. "Come. Let's get you taken care of." She motions for you to follow her as she exits your cell.

You stand, rising on your slightly wobbly legs. You crouch down, lowering your height in order to leave your cell. Mother Miranda begins to turn on her machines and gadgets as you make your way over to her. Before you sit, you allow her to measure your height and take your weight.

"No fluctuations." She states. "That's a good sign." She jots this down in her notes. "Have a seat, dear."

You sit on a cold metal table. Most chairs are too low for you, so this is a comfortable solution. Mother Miranda holds a stethoscope to your chest, listening to your heartbeat. Then, she places it on your back and directs you to take a deep breath. She does this a few times, moving the stethoscope to different locations behind you. Once finished, she places her equipment on a tray and grabs another. She assesses your blood pressure, checks your vision and hearing, assesses your brain functionality, and examines your skin.

"Your recovery has been quite exceptional." She exclaims with a grin. "Now, let's have a look at those marks on your back. Shall we?"

You give her a nod, giving her permission to continue her assessment. Mother Miranda moves behind you and slides your gown from your shoulders. The air around you is brisk, causing goosebumps to prick to the surface of your skin. Mother Miranda feels the strange marks on your back. Although her fingers are tipped with sharp talons, she's careful not to hurt you. She stretches and pokes the area, just as she does regularly.

"Any idea what they are from?" You ask her.

"I haven't the slightest idea." Mother Miranda sighs, pulling your dress back up. "Tests show they are of no concern. The area seems a bit bruised though. Do they cause any pain?"

"Occasionally. But nothing excruciating." You tell her.

"There's nothing more I can do to determine their cause. You may just have a bit of a deformity." She exclaims.
