Chapter Thirty-Seven: What She Did That Day

Annabeth

Seeing Rachel Elizabeth Dare the day after my birthday was the biggest surprise of all. To say I was speechless was an understatement.

I sat in the kitchen, watching Percy cook dinner. More like staring at his ass, but it's practically the same thing.

"You're staring," he teased, waving his spatula around.

"I don't know what you are talking about,"

"Oh, I think you do," Percy leaned across the counter and kissed me softly, lovingly.

"Did you know," I paused between words to kiss him, "that I love you more than anything?"

"I think I might understand better if you showed me," he whispered in my ear.

I giggled a bit, shaking my head. "Maybe later...your tomatoes are getting crispy."

"Not my tomatoes!" He shrieked, running back to the tomatoes he was sauteeing for soup.

"Did you remember to wash the blender?" I asked, glancing over at the sink where dishes fell into an endless void.

"Um..." Percy raised his eyebrow. "It's at the bottom of the sink."

I groaned, getting up from my chair. "I'll do the dishes, you stick to your tomatoes."

I began putting dishes into the dishwasher. After a while, all the small things were in the top rack and I could fit all the plates and bowls into the bottom.

"I'm just going to start paying the girls to do this because I'm too lazy for this shit," I grumbled, cringing at the slimy feel of the silverware.

"If you do that, then pretty soon we'll be broke and they will be rich."

"They can start saving for after highschool, then."

Percy rolled his eyes and added a sizable amount of wine to the tomatoes.

"Flavor," he shrugged, grinning at me. "If all our alcohol goes towards your amazing cooking, then it's fine by me," I laughed, beginning to wash the hand blender.

"Here," I handed it to Percy, which he then set aside to use later.

I was about to go sit back down, but the doorbell rang. We always had our curtains closed, so I couldn't see who was there. "I'll be right back," I said, running to answer the door. I opened the door, suppressing a yawn.

Rachel stood there, fidgeting with her hands and holding a bottle of wine with a large bow awkwardly stuck on the cork.

"Um–hey! Rachel, how are you?" I asked, grinning.

"Good, thanks," she paused, "oh, I brought you this!" She held out the wine bottle. "Happy belated birthday."

"Thank you," I took the bottle from her. "Do you want to come in? Dinner is almost ready, and Percy always makes way too much."

"I couldn't. I just came to say happy birthday and say hi to Annie, really."

"If you insist," I shrugged. "Come in, I'll get Annie."

Rachel followed me inside, standing by the wall.

I walked down the stairs to the game room where Rosie and Annie were playing pool.

"How do you win every time?" Rosie asked, pouting.

"Because I've been playing for longer, simple." Annie grinned.
