ROSS
We are playing cards in the living room. Dad has been gone for two hours now, even if he said he would be absent only 30 minutes. Mom is looking at the door every 2 minutes, hoping to see him arrive safe and sound. It's dangerous to go outside now, because of all the riots and, and the few Infecteds of course. Mom tried to convince Dad to stay, but she failed. We don't even know why he wanted to leave the house.
"I won." I say without joy, putting my cards on the coffee table, as I glance at everyone. Mom, Rocky, Rydel, Riker, Ryland. No one grumble because they has lost, surprisingly. Not too much actually, now that I think about it. We are not really playing, too preoccupied thinking about Dad. If he's gonna come back home safe and sound.
"Hum... If you don't mind, I'm going to my room." No answer. Fine, it's not like I needed one anyway. I get up from the easy chair I was sat in, and leave this room full of tension. It oppresses me, it's like I can't even breath.
I then go upstairs, leaving everyone here, go in my room and sit on my bed. I pull my knees up to my chest, burry my head in them, and take deep breaths. I close my eyes to calm me down. I hear some foot step, and a door opening. I look up, and my eyes meet my little brother.
"We should stay together." He tells me, staying at the door frame.
"I don't want to." I meanly reply. I can be in a very bad mood when I'm anxious. Ryland knows this.
"Seriously Ross, you should wait for Dad with us. Downstairs."
"He won't come back." I whisper. I'm not going to lie, I've been keeping on thinking about this eventuality, after hours of waiting. It's too long. Way too long. It's not a good sign.
"Stop despairing, would you? Don't say silly things!" I start laughing. Not a real laugh though, more like a nervous one. I didn't say a silly thing. He knows it as much as I do. If we're all worrying, it's for the same reason. Dad has been gone for too long.
"Damn, Ross, I'm serious! I may be your little brother, but it's an order! I'll bring you downstairs, one way or another!" He half shouts. I'm pretty sure everyone in the house heard him.
I still don't move from my bed though. I'm a very stubborn person, no one would change that. I decided to wait here, I'm gonna wait here.
"Ross... Seriously?" Ryland sighs shaking his head slightly. I don't say anything, my eyes still fixed on my little brother. What doesn't he understand? All I want is him to leave me alone so I can depress in my sorrows.
"Fine." Ryland eventually says after a while."You can only blame yourself for this." He suddenly gets closer, and grabs my ankles yanking me out of the bed.
"Ow!" I pout, now sitting on the floor. I glare at him as I rub my painful bottom.
"Guess you don't have any choice now..." Ryland proudly smirks at me.
"All right. I'm going with you." I give in. If there's someone in the house as stubborn as I am, it's him. It'd be better to let him win, or we'll start arguing, and it's the last thing we need in this tough situation.
"Good. It's about time. Hope I won't have to use "violence" next time."He glances at me, before leaving our room. I get up on my feet as I let out another long sigh, and follow him. We go down the stairs, and head back to the living room.
