ROSS
I woke up a hour ago. And I'm still human. 5 days since I left, plus the few days I spent at home after I've been bitten. A week, and still nothing.
I'd like to understand what's wrong with me to be honest.
I hold my belly as it growls again. I haven't eaten since yesterday (well, except if a half of a cereal bar counts), I absolutely need to find something today. It'd be dumb to die of starvation after all of this. It's not my fault, I only made sure I had 2 days of provisions, I didn't know I would've hold on this long. I tried to ration the best I could, but now I don't have anything. I've searched a lot already, but finding food in this city is harder than it seems.
I wince as I adjust my backpack on my shoulders. The sun kept on scorching more than usual, and I got sunburnt where my skin isn't protected. I could wear a jacket or something, but I'll be too hot and throw it anyway. So I walk at the shade of the buildings, watching out for the litters on the ground to not trip.
My eyes scan the street, searching for a building that doesn't seem too creepy. I meet way too much Infecteds already in my opinion, and they always show up when I'm not ready. I barely sleep at night, thinking one is coming after I heard a suspect noise. Even if I turned the place upside down like 5 times before.
Yeah, I may be a little too much paranoid, but we're never too prudent.
The thing is, that all the buildings looks creepy as hell. But I'll have to make a choice.
I stop at random, there's no point to go on anyways. And my stomach growls in protest once again.
"Oh, just shut up already." I frown, looking down.
Yes, I do talk to my belly, and no, I'm not crazy. Not yet. I've been talking to myself a lot, so I feel less alone, and I hope it wont make me loose my marbles. I saw someone becoming crazy because he was all alone once in a movie. And I don't want this to happen to me.
I make for the front door, and quietly open it, after I took a deep breath.
"Hello?" I shout in the house. Just for safety purposes. If there's one of them inside, I'll have time to see it coming and get rid of it.
As not a suspect sounds reach me, I decide to come in. The first thing that hits me is the pestilential smell that reign in this place. I grab the knife hung on my belt, and move forwards making a face. It seems that it's been months corpses are decomposing here.
If only I knew.
(Disgusting thin coming just warning lol)
This image strikes me as soon as I set foot in what I think is the living room. Blood everywhere on the floor. My eyes follows the stain, and end up on a man. I think it's a man, but the body is already well decomposed. He's laid down on the floor, a gun in his huddled up hand. His eyes stare blanky at the ceiling.
But it's not the worst part.
I'd like to look away and run, but my legs seem to be anchored on the ground.
He shot himself, according to the blood and piece of flesh everywhere on the floor. There's a incredible hole at the back of his head, letting see his...
I drop my knife and turn around, as I feel this familiar thing in my stomach when I'm sick. I retch and know what's coming next.
I weakly lean on the wall as I throw up the few food I have left in my stomach. I close my eyes and try to calm myself down when I realise I'm shaking like a leaf.
I must go out of here.
I barely stand on my feet, but grab the knife I dropped and slowly make for the front door without looking back. I don't want to see something like this anymore. I'm aware some people were desperate and chose this solution to the problem, but I didn't want to find any. I guess I've been lucky these past 6 months, but my luck turns our pretty badly lately anyway.
