Chapter Nineteen

Hey guys <3! I read some advices about the writers blocks and that helped me a lot, I finally managed to write this chapter. As I said on my last update, I'll try to post as much as I can before I leave for holidays. Enjoy <3!

ROCKY

We are eating our lunch when we hear screams outside.

"What's that?" Ethan asks, his mouth full.

"Only one way to know..." I answers standing up quickly. We rush outside.

Surrounded by a few people, two men are fighting, God only knows why. Well, actually it isn't really a fight because one of them is considerably winning on the other. He is straddled on him and is hitting his face.

Wait, but the one who is beaten up... He's about 14!

Seeing that nobody is trying to stop them, I rush toward the man. I grab him by his shoulders and violently pull him backward. He stares at me, surprised.

"Are you out of your mind? What's wrong with you to beat up a kid?!" I yell at him. I see Maddy running toward the wounded person to comfort him.

"It's none of your business kid..." He spits. He pulls up his sleeves and rush toward me, threatening.
Big mistake.

I avoid his clumsy fist without any difficulty, send mine in the hollow of his stomach and hit him at the temple with a quick blow. He collapses on the floor groaning.
Ethan stares at me, gaping.

"What?" I casually asks as I get closer to him.

"It was fast."

"I killed strong Infecteds with my bare hands, do you really think that a crazy man who beat up child scares me?"
Ethan shrugs.

"Well, that kinda make sense."

"Rocky, come and help me to carry Andy please, he must go to the infirmary." Maddy calls me, lifting up the wounded.

The poor guy has his nose and lips bloody. I join them and support Andy on his other side. We gi away as the security patrol shows up and discovers the man on the ground.

"Oh sorry Rocky, but you don't have lessons today." Mrs Hill tells me as I sit in front of her desk.

"What do you mean?" I frown.

"You're summoned at Mr Davis' office." She hands me a paper. I grab it.

"Oh no..." I whine, reading it.

"What have you done Rocky?"

I think about what happened at the lunch. And yet I haven'tt done something wrong. I prevented a man to beat up a teen.
Maybe I killed him, who knows...

"Rocky?" I go out of my thoughts.

"You have to go now, you're summoned at 3:45 pm you're going to be late."

"Great..."

I sigh, grab my backpack and leave the room. I go out of the building and head for the boss' office. What will he tell me? Punish me? What I have done is right. Well I think...

I go inside his office, anxious. The husky guy from the other time, Morgan if I remember well, is here.

"We were waiting for you, Mr Lynch."

"Well, if you would have told me earlier I would have not been late." I reply, sarcastic.

Morgan says nothing and opens the door. Davis is looking outside, as he usually does.

"Take a seat." He simply says. I obey.

"So, what happened today midday, Rocky?"

Since when does he call me Rocky? I nervously squirm on my chair. It's not really a good sign.

"Hum... There was a fight. This guy was beating up a kid, so I acted." I answer.

Davis doesn't say anything. He stares at me for a long time, and ends up sitting in front of me, folding his hands on his chest.
God I hate when he does that...

"Rocky, you did well. If you would have not intervened, Mr Miller would have kept on hitting this poor boy. Normally, the rules state that you have to wait for the security patrol and let them act, but I guess you didn't know about this."

That explains why people weren't doing anything. I nod.

"Good. Case closed."

He opens one of the drawer of his desk and takes out a file.

"Here is the report of all your tests at the different jobs. It appeared that none of them was suitable for your profile. But I think I have a solution."

Davis hands me the file.

MADDY

What are they doing? Usually a summon only last 30 minutes.

Mrs Hill allowed me to leave the class before so I could wait for Rocky, but he didn't go outside yet... Even Ethan who joined me left.

All of a sudden, the door opens on Rocky.

"It's about time!" I can't help exclaming.
Rocky raises his head and smiles at me.
"Oh cool! You waited for me!"

"Well, Ethan did too but he left."

"It doesn't matter."

We head for the dormitory, which is a bit far from here. I take advantage of asking him what happended.

"So, this summon?"

"You won't believe me."

"Stop making me wait, go ahead tell me!" I say full of enthusiasm.

"Okay, okay... You remember what happen this midday, when I knocked this guy out to stop him?"

"Yeah, he was beating Andy."

"Well, that brought me to a job in the security patrol. I'm starting a training soon."

"It's awesome!"

I jump on his arms to congratulate him. I'm so glad for him! He was always complaining about these little jobs he found boring. It's a job for him I know it, after I see what he did this midday. And yet I feel something is wrong. I release our hug.

"Hey, you're okay?"

He looks down.

"Not really..."

"What's wrong?" I aske worried.

"When I fought this morning, I remembered the patrols. And my brothers."

"I'm sure they're okay." I try to reassure him.

"How can you be sure? They're outside, with Infecteds. I'd give a lot to see them a minute, just a minute." He sadly says looking at the surrounding walls.

"What I know, is that if your brothers are as brave as you, they're probably fine and they get through it. Trust me."

A little smile appears on his face.

"You may be right."

"Of course I'm right. Come, let's join Ethan."

I take his hand and we head for the dormitory.

I didn't like Maddy POV xD...
