The journalist in the making was sitting in a booth with her computer to her face, typing away at the next article she was prepping to publish in the newspaper. After successfully landing an internship with LA Tribune and performing well, about three months into the internship, they offered her a more permanent position as a writer for the newspaper channeled by the Tribune. Though Olivia was thrilled to work closer with this team of professionals, this next article she was trying to write wasn't landing. Normally she would just chalk it up to just old-fashioned nervousness, but this time felt differently than the others.
Love.... what does it mean?
The young teenager had only typed up five words in the last hour of her sitting in her booth at the hangout, a past time from high school days that followed her and her friend group into their early adult hood.
"Come on Liv, come on, focus girl focus" Liv said out loud to nobody in particular as she stared away at the blank page on her Mac. Her head fell back as she huffed to herself, not noticing one of the waitresses had stopped over to fill up her cup with more tea and honey. She looked up briefly as the waiter was starting to walk in the other direction.
"Thanks Mira" The worker stopped to smile and nod as Olivia turned her attention back to the blank page, drawing a slow sip of the green tea from her cup. The steam filled her nostrils as she let the sip take its way down her throat, soothing her mind a little. The taste of the honey left its mark on her lips as she slowly sat her cup down attempting a sentence with her fingers again. Blank, again. She inhaled her breath, closing her laptop, tapping her nails on the table, rubbing at her temple with her eyes closed. Seconds later she heard a buzz from her jean jacket, pulling it out from the side.
"Hello?"
"How's the article going sis?" Olivia response was a loud sigh from her mouth. Jordan was silent but knew exactly what his twin was feeling at this moment.
"That bad huh?" Olivia nodded silently before giving him a verbal response.
"I don't know what it is Jordan, it's like I know what I want to say, but I just can't seem to form it into words. I'm drawing a blank here and I just..." Olivia sighed frustratedly with her hands going back to its respectful place back to her forehead.
"Anytime you draw a blank like that, it's usually something deeper beneath the block your facing"
"Deeper? Okay Jordan Pinkett, wanna explain that to me in a language I actually understand?" Olivia attempted at a laugh as Jordan's side remained silent.
"What I mean, dear old sis, is that you need to deal with whatever it is your avoiding"
"I'm not avoiding anything Jordan" Olivia spoke plainly with a shrug.
"You sure about that?"
"Positive"
"When's the last time you spoke to Spencer?" Her side of the phone fell silent as she slapped her thighs loudly, growing annoyed by the mention of his name.
"There's...nothing for him and I to talk about, what's done is done and there's no coming back from it" Jordan chuckled to himself not taking in any of the lies his sister was trying to tell him or herself.
"You and I both know that couldn't be further from the truth. Listen Liv, I know love when I see it and even though you two chose to go your separate ways, because it was a choice at the end of the day, for whatever reason, that love doesn't leave when you do. Not if it's real, a love like that remains, even when you fight against every instinct in your body telling you to rid yourself of it. I don't know what happened between you two, but whatever it was, it's still unresolved and you're not going to be able to get the words out for this article until you work that out"
