Spencer looked in the mirror, eying his outfit. He couldn't decipher how or why he was so nervous. Sure, he hadn't been out with anyone else in almost three months, not since his split with Olivia. Olivia, the love of his life. High school sweethearts. Spencer sighed deeply, playing with the chain around his neck, an flood of memories coming through his mind.

Flashback

The day they met

"You can share with me" The curly brunette says, making room for him to the side of her. The new student took her invitation, sliding beside her. She smiled leaning over to his ear,

"I'll warn you, my chromosomal DNA knowledge is non-existent at best" pushing the laptop towards him.

"I think I might be able to help with that" Spencer takes the laptop from her, their hands brushing lightly against one another as their eyes met stagnantly.

Shared Trauma

Olivia removed her headphones from her ear, smiling down at her best friend as he had his head turned to the side. She got up, with Spencer patting the bed, Olivia's eyes met his for confirmation and he took hold of her hand pulling her next to him. She adjusted herself so she wasn't putting all her weight on him, resting her head on his shoulder, Spencer laying his head to hers. They remained silent as Olivia's hands slid down, joining them with his.

"Thanks for saving my life" He took a long pause before speaking.

"Anytime" He gripped her fingers tighter, bringing their joint hands to his lips.

Realization

Olivia played with the heart pendant in her hands, with tears prickling her eyelids as she slowly looked up at him, seeing he was already looking at her with the same expression.

"Spencer...." He walked forward cupping her face in his palm, before kissing her slow and passionately. Her eyes peered into his as he slowly pulled himself away from her grasp before she grabbed his face crashing his lips onto hers. She gave a relaxed sigh as they pulled apart for the second time, gaping at him from beneath her lashes.

"I love you....I don't know when it happened, maybe it was the night I jumped in front of that bullet, or our movie nights over the summer, or maybe it's been since I first got to Beverly without me realizing it, but I know now, I'm in love with you" He had to wait months later before she said it back and this was not before she ran away from him when he first said it.

Months Later

"I love you too Spencer"

"& what if I told you I could be with you and still put my recovery first?"

Now here they were, after almost ten years of dating, long distance, four hard years in undergrad for Olivia and another two for her masters, all while supporting Spencer's elevated football career. The more the pressure built for them, the more distant they became with one another, and that distance led to a mutual break up almost three months ago. They told each other they were just taking a break but by the lack of communication and the constant avoiding one another, it no longer felt like a temporary break. After keeping to himself for two months in a row and feeling so miserable, he decided to go out on one date. This was a girl he'd seen locally and would decline her invites to get dinner almost everytime they'd run into each other until finally one day, he took her up on the offer. He was going out on this date but that didn't take away from his thoughts of Olivia. He believed it was over but that didn't stop him from missing her any more than he already did. He was pushed out of his thoughts by the buzz on his dresser. He picked up his phone seeing he had a text from Liyah saying she was headed to the restaurant. They were just grabbing drinks and some appetizers locally so a formal him picking her up was necessary. He texted back a response before jolting the keys in his hand, throwing on his jacket, heading out the door. Arriving twenty minutes later, he made his way into the spot, after valet parking his car.
