A/N: This chapter and the next will go back and forth between the past and present, showcasing certain things in their dynamic. Pay close attention to that. Part three focuses solely on Spencer and part 4, we will get Olivia's side of things. I recommend listening to the song while reading also! Part 4 is underway right now! Hope you guys enjoy this one!

Present Day

"Mistakes were made"

Spencer's sight goes back to Olivia. She hugs her body, finding comfort in the unknown when her eyes find their way to him.

"Mistakes? Or were they choices and we just said they were mistakes to make ourselves feel better?" He went silent, swallowing hard.

"That time was rough on both of us..."

"Rough is an understatement.... we were at our worst after you lost them"

He looked back up at her, shifting in the bed as his thoughts carried themselves to the dark place, he found himself stuck in after losing two surrogate siblings in the same night.

Flashback~ One Year and Two Months Ago

You've reached Spencer James, I'm not available right now so leave your name and number, and I'll hit ya back, or not.

*Beep*

"Hey baby, uhm, I've been tryna reach you all day, but you haven't hit me back. Anyway, I'm still at the office but should be heading out shortly, was thinking I could cook, or order in, if you're up for it. Let me know, okay? I love you baby boy"

Olivia finalizes her voicemail to Spencer, kissing into the receiver before hanging up. She relaxes into her chair with an heavy sigh, tossing her device to the side.

"He answer this time?"

Her colleague Noah asked, as his chair rolled out from his working square. Olivia shook her head as her eyes fell to her lap. They interned together as college students at the LA Tribune and received permanent job positions around the same time prior to graduating. They have been working closely together ever since.

"Nope" She answers in an flat tone.

"I'm sure he has an good excuse, maybe he's getting some practice in before the season starts" Noah assumes, putting his pen to his lips.

"He's taken time off since...you know...he doesn't have an reason to prepare or practice"

Olivia says in an matter of fact tone with her head hanging down. Noah's face softens, placing his hand to her thigh.

"Hey...he'll call back..." An smile creeps up as they make eye contact for an few seconds. Olivia tears her eyes away as the moment intensifies, slowly pushing his palm off her.

"We should get back to work. You have any updates for me on the Jalen Ramsey interview coming up?"

Noah maneuvers back over to his desk, quickly coming back with an packet in hand.

"His manager and coach confirmed his slot for next Friday morning. I wrote us an little script and highlighted some talking points"

She takes the packet, flipping through it til the end. Her eyes scanned it, an grin forming coming across some intel that piqued her interest on another level.

"Oh this is gonna be quite the interview"

On the other side of town, Olivia's other half was occupied with some business of his own that wasn't connected to his choice of profession. Sweat rolled down his bare chest as his right fist connected with the punching bag standing in front of him. His left knuckles right hooked the thin material with his fondest memories of Darnell and Coop invading his conscience. Their laughter and jokes, how they'd tag team against him every chance they got, the love he could see in their eyes when they talked about Kia and Patience. His fists beat into the bag with such violent force, letting the memories take over. Fresh tears came to the surface as he beat out all his frustrations and heartbreak. Speckles of perspiration jumped off his frame, letting his knuckles collide with the bean bag over and over until his arms grew limp. His heavy breathing subsided, hunching over, resting his hands to his knees.
