Two Weeks Before Wedding Bells

"What about this one son?" Grace James stood before her oldest child in what had to be the sixth white dress she tried on in this particular bridal shop.

"It looks great" Spencer says with his eyes glued to his phone screen. The matriarch rested her hands on her hips with light scoff to her lips.

"You didn't even look boy"

"Yes, I did" he busies his fingers typing out the text message he was sending to Jordan about running drills later after his chemistry lab.

"Spencer...Alonzo...James!" She snapped her fingers raising her voice, catching his attention as his eyes finally met up with hers. He tossed his phone on the sofa he was sitting on, standing up approaching her.

"Ma, I'm sorry, I'm an guy, I'm no good at this"

"Believe me, if it were up to me, you wouldn't be here right now, but you said you wanted to help me, so if that's what you came to do, start acting like it" Her hand smacked the back of his head as he winced an little from the feeling.

"Dang, so violent" He caught her mid-giggle as she half-smiled, setting her hand on his shoulder.

"I'll get even more violent if you keep playin wit me. Now, quit goofing off and tell me what you think" Spencer sensed her nerves, comforting her shoulders.

"Ma, ma, okay I hear you, but for both of our sakes, I need you to relax an little, okay?" She heaves out an loud sigh before nodding her head.

"Good. K, now, do an little spin for me"

"An spin?" Her brow raised at that statement.

"Yes, twirloo like how you did when you went to prom with Billy" He cracked another joke, with no amusement in Grace's expression. He threw his hands up in surrender, giving her room before she did an quick spin in the dress. Spencer folded his arms engaged, placing his thumb and forefinger to his chin. His finger on the other hand circled, giving Grace the greenlight to spin again, stopping in front of him so he could get the full effect of the dress. Few moments later, his smile came then vanished.

"You don't like it, see I knew you wouldn't I just tho-"He cut her off mid-sentence raising his palms in the air through an holding position.

"No no, I like it, I like it a lot actually, but...I need an second opinion"

"What do you mean?" Grace stared witnessing her oldest pulling out his phone putting his fingers back to work.

"There's something missing..." He sent out the text before sliding the device back in his back pocket.

"Okayyyy and? You gone tell me what that is, or you gone keep playing guess who?" Irritation spilling over in his mom's tone as he finally looked up at her.

"Just trust me ma, it's gonna be great" He kept trying to convince her.

"Mhm where have I heard those words before?" Spencer's head whipped back at the statement.

"I'm gonna just chuck up your response as nerves and not take it too personal, this time" He held his heart to his chest, feigning off the obvious offense he was feeling.

"Hey if it helps you sleep at night" Grace gave an hearty chuckle throwing her hands up playfully while Spencer crossed his arms, highly offended.

"Ha. Ha. Ha, alright Ms. Bride to be, go back there and try on some more dresses while I wait for my help to arrive" He crossed over, gently pushing her back in the dressing stall as she laughed the whole time, knowing she had succeeded in annoying him.
