After what felt like hours, Mason was finally allowed to go into the room where he believed his heart was, but nothing could of prepared him for the image he saw in front of him.
Lacey lay, looking as peaceful as he had ever saw her, almost like she was just asleep, and for a brief moment he wished he had never left her in bed this morning, that he had stayed a little longer, held her a little closer, and maybe just blew training off to spend the morning cuddled up in bed, hanging out of their backsides, watching rubbish tv.
"Lace" Mason whispered, as he wiped his face again, moving over to the bed and sitting down next to her taking her cold hand in his, shivering slightly at how cold she was. "I wish i could joke about how quiet it is, but I'd do anything to hear you moan and shout at me right now" Mason whispered, he continued to whisper scared he would wake her up, thinking she was just sleeping, but he knew she wasn't.
"I come in here expecting you to wake up and tell me to stop being a child and crying over it all, but I'm literally scared to death that this is it and this is the last time I'll get to hold your hand" Mason stated, his voice louder than a whisper now, feeling the anger boil up inside him. "Remember when I asked you to marry me last night" he chuckled, wiping another tear from his face. "God I'd asked you again and again if it meant I got five more minutes with you now" Mason stated, his thumb rubbing over her hand, tracing the finer lines that were on her hands, dancing between her fingers, just wanting them to grab his hand back. "I've been thinking all morning about how I was going to ask you out properly" Mason smiled. "I mean, it's what we both want, well I hope it's what we both want" Mason whispered, his eyes scanning over her face, looking peaceful. "I thought about keeping it simple, keeping it just us two, my cooking, your terrible jokes, and a marathon of friends" Mason smiled, but the tears still fell down his face, just silently.
"I'm here Lace, and I promise you, hand on heart I'm not leaving you, not now, not ever, so don't fucking leave me either" Mason chuckled, and for a brief moment he swore Lacey squeezed his hand back, a million thoughts running through his head. "Lace?" He whispered, and again, he swore he felt it.

Mason jumped up and stood at the door, calling for a nurse, as Declan and Lauren come forward, asking him what was wrong, but he didn't reply, he just wanted to know that Lacey could hear him, and that she was replying to him by squeezing his hand. But the nurse confirmed it was a figment of his imagination, or an involuntary response from her body, her muscles just moving. "Mase, let's go get a drink, Ben and Ellie are here" Lauren whispered, as Mason shook his head. "Bro, I know you don't want to leave her, but you need to remember she wouldn't want you this way either" Declan stated, as Mason nodded his head slowly. "You'll text me if anything changes?" Mason questioned to Ben, as he nodded his head. "Yeah, Jack and Sash are with Cal and Dani, his awake if you want to pop onto him" Ben stated, as Mason nodded his head. "Can we go there first?" Mason questioned, as Declan nodded his head, both of them walking to the room at the end of the corridor, knowing that the other Cross sibling was inside and awake felt like a stab at Masons heart.
"Mason?" Callum stated, his voice quiet and hoarse, but there he was, awake. "Is she awake?" Callum whispered, as Mason shook his head. "I'm sorry bro, I'm really sorry" Callum sobbed, as Dani held his arm, trying to calm him down. "It's not your fault" Mason whispered, as he wiped his face again, something he knew he would be doing for the rest of the day. "She really loves you" Callum whispered. "And you have my full blessing" Callum smiled, as Mason nodded his head, smiling briefly at him. "She'll wake up, she's still got to wind you up for the rest of her life" Callum smiled, trying to make light in the dark situation, as Mason nodded his head. "I'm going to get coffee, if anyone wants anything?" Mason questioned, as the group got their orders in, Sasha agreeing to go with Mason, Lauren and Declan to get them.
"How are you feeling?" Sasha whispered, as she held onto Masons arm walking down the corridor, glancing quickly at Lacey's door, sighing to herself, when Mason didn't answer her. "Mase?" Sasha whispered. "I feel numb, like I feel empty" Mason whispered, as Sasha nodded her head. "She will pull through Mase, Callum was right, she's for a lifetime of annoying you to do" Sasha whispered, as Mason nodded his head, walking into the restaurant, lingering back whilst Declan and Lauren ordered the drinks, pulling his phone out of his pocket, as his eyes glanced of a text.

Masons eyes widened as he turned on his heels and ran as fast as he could to the room, knowing he needed to get there fast, and he did just that, stopping for nothing, no matter who recognised him or noticed him, his mind was focused.
"Woah, Mase what's up?" Ben questioned, as Mason shook his head walking into the room, Lacey still lay in bed, her eyes open as she looked at the door.

"I love you more" Mason whispered, as Lacey tried to smile. "I love you the most" Lacey whispered.
