Chalmer's pov: I rested my arms and put down my newspaper as I heard the sound of the door quietly shutting. I got up and decided to confront my daughter, Shauna. She's been sneaking around a lot recently and I really want to know what's going on now. I caught her sneaking upstairs, she was trying to be discreet but I knew what was going on. I stood there at the bottom of the staircase, put my hands on my hips and loudly cleared my throat to get her attention. She gasped and  stopped in her tracks, startled that I was watching her.

"You got anything you want to tell me, young lady?" I said in a firm but kind voice, or at least I thought so.

"Omg, dad! You're overreacting" she rolled her eyes and continued to match upstairs.

"SHAUNA!" I called out after her and she scoffed and stopped again.

"Whaaat?" She replied to me in a sarcastic voice.

"Don't take that tone with me, now tell me, where is it that you were sneaking to? Is it with your boyfriend, bimbo?"

" It's Jimbo, dad" she scowled. "And it doesn't matter where I've been, I just want to go to bed" and with that she stormed off upstairs and left me alone like this. I heaved a sigh. I know she isn't exactly a model student but I'm really worried about her recent behaviour. I love her and I just want the best for her but I don't think she sees that. I need to find a way to find out what's wrong with her without her knowing.

The next evening, I had come up with an idea to find out what the issue was. It wasn't exactly genius but it was worth a shot. I sat myself on the couch and put on the tv. I turned the volume down low as I heard the sound of footsteps sneaking downstairs and her sneaking out the backdoor. I don't want to sound like I'm disrespecting her privacy but this has been going on for too long and I don't want her to get hurt. I followed her discreetly in my 1979 Honda accord as she stalked down the street, eventually stopping at a house. I wasn't familiar with the house or the neighbourhood which aroused my suspicion further. I watched as she knocked on the door of a house and someone opened. It was a woman, younger than me but older than my daughter and my curiosity was now piqued. I waited a moment before I parked and got out. I knocked on the door and patiently waited so I could confront her. The woman I saw from my car answered with a pleasant smile. "Hello?"

" Excuse me, miss, but I believe my daughter is here, a Shauna Chalmers? "

"Oh yes! She's right in here" she answered as she took me into her house and there I saw Shauna. She jumped out of her skin when she saw me. "DAD!" She shrieked. "What are you doing here?" She angrily demanded. " Now, Shauna, don't be so rude, he's worried about you" the woman said softly, calming her down. "Shauna, I think it would be best if I were to speak to your father in private for a moment" Shauna heaved a sigh and rolled eyes as she got out of the room. "Whatever"

I sat down as I wanted to know more and why my daughter was here. "Excuse me, I really don't mean to be a nuisance or anything, but I just want to know what is going on here? Shauna keeps sneaking off here all the time and I want to know what's going on" I calmly stated my business.

"Well, I'm (y/n) (l/n), I'm Shauna's teacher. The girl comes to me whenever she wants to talk or just needs someone to confide in."

The superintendent smiled. It seemed you were a good influence on her and he this pleased him. "Well, I have to say, I haven't had so many bad reports back from the school recently" he confessed.

"True" you agreed proudly. "I think she sometimes feels lonely, you know, like she has no one else to turn to"

"But I'm her father!" He looked startled for a moment.

" True" you answered coolly. "But she's at that awkward stage now and she doesn't exactly have a mother figure to turn to. I was hoping I could make friends with her and hopefully direct her along the right path. I believe that with the right voice and guidance, she could grow up to be a fine young woman"

His face lit up and he smiled widely, clearly pleased at this statement. "Well thank you, that's very kind of you"

"No problem, it's my duty. I would like to know more about you, she does tell me about you"

"All good things I hope"

"Not all of them" you laughed nervously. "Why don't I put on some tea for us?" You offered.

"Thank you, that would be much appreciated"

You made some tea for both him and yourself and you got sat down and began to really talk with him and you got to know him. He told you about his struggles as a single parent and you tried your best to listen, empathize and offer advice. He warmed up to your caring nature and found himself liking you more and more and eventually falling in love even.

"You know, (l/n), I really think I've learned a few things from this talk and I just want to thank you for all you've done"

"I've already told you, it's no problem"

" Well then could I maybe continue this talk with you? At dinner one night? " he asked hopefully.

You realised what he was doing and decided why not? "Of course, I'd be much obliged, especially considering I'm the most motherly figure in her life"

He smiled from ear to ear. "Well that's perfect, but now I've got to go home and spend some time wit my daughter" he said as he took his now smiling daughter aside and took her home. You felt your heart skip a best as you realised what you just done and you were glad he was taking you out. You both clearly liked each other and you had a feeling you were just right for each other.
