"Phew! I'll be glad when I'm done stacking these shelves" you smiled and wiped the sweat from your forehead as you got down from the step.
"Agreed. I can't wait for lunchtime, I'm desperate to know how the kids are" your co-worker replied. Marge Simpson was fairly to new to the supermarket, but you showed her the ropes and she eventually got the idea. She was a quick learner and used to cleaning up after people and fixing things. She had been working here for a few months. She explained to you before about how she had recently divorced from her husband and had to take up here at the store to support her family. She had worked numerous jobs before, so it didn't really bother her, but she did miss her old life sometimes.
"Oh, how have they been doing recently? How are Bart and Lisa's grades? Has Maggie spoken yet?" You asked. You enjoyed your conversations with her.
"Lisa's soaring through her work. Bart...makes do, and Maggie is silent" She answered as you both continued stockpiling.
"Maybe she's just a quiet kid" You shrugged.
"Hmm, maybe" She said with her adorable raspy voice. You admired how she managed to look after her family and make time for them even with a job and housemaking. Your admiration grew by the day, and lately you were beginning to see her as more than a friend. A cereal box fell and you rushed to pick it up again. You never noticed she did the same as you were both now touching hands and looking into each other's eyes. You were blushing wildly!
"How cliche!" She chuckled as she fixed it, not at all bothered by the situation. You on the other hand, couldn't stop thinking about it.
Your lunch break came and you couldn't wait to get tucked into your (f/f)! Marge on the other hand, was spending hers outside on the phone with her kids. You watched her and thought about how amazing how you found her. You knew you had been crushing on her for a while now, and you saw how hard she worked and you desperately wanted to do something for her. She put the call off and sat with you and opened her lunchbox where she had a lovely potato salad.
"What is it with you and potatoes?" You asked. You found it strange and oddly cute at the same time.
"I just think they're neat!" She grinned, though she looked a little forlorn, you thought. She looked at you and smiled and looked down at her food again, but then she spoke. "(y/n), i want you to know what a great friend you've been through these tough months and i can't repay the support you've given me. The kids even know and love you!"
Your face turned red when she spoke these words! You couldn't hide your delight! "It's really nothing, Marge. You deserve it. There's just one other thing i want to do for you" Oh boy, here goes, you thought.
"what is it?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.
"It's just that you've been working non stop for weeks and do so much for your children when you're home. My point is you never get a break, please, let me take you for dinner tonight" You offered with a hopeful smile.
She looked taken aback with this and you were regretting making your bold move. "That's really very nice of you, but what about the kids? I suppose i could get a babysitter"
"Yeah! Of course! You really deserve some time away from work and stress"
"Well..." She considered it for a moment. She wasn't sure about going any dates. Was it too soon? Was it the right decision? You could understand all these doubts, but you hoped she wouldn't decline. "Alright, i guess you're right" She smiled and placed her hand on yours.
She said yes. "Alright! I know a really good restaurant, you'll love it"
"As long as it saves me from cooking!" She laughed. Your lunch break was over and you both returned to working, thinking about your date all the while.
