About 9 months later

I drive around the city playing music just spending time by myself since I'm off today, Claire's training the new guy so she gave me the day off and shawn has been working a lot more than usual.

While I'm driving the music stops and my phone starts ringing, I answer and it's shawn. "Hey" he says. "Hey I thought you were busy today" I reply. "I'm on break" he says. "Oh okay, how is it going?" I ask.

He sighs "had to have a few people removed" he says. "Damn" I say. We talk for a bit before he has to go back to working, since he's finished his schooling he picked up day shifts and works some nights so I've hardly seen him in the last month.

I've talked to jacob a few times a week for the last 9 months, he's still been distant but we're still close. Sage on the other hand still hasn't talked to any of our friends, she tweeted about seeing someone about a month ago.

After picking up some Chinese food on my way home I sit on the couch and watch tv. Claire comes home hours later looking tired and annoyed. "This new guy is not going to make it long" she says. I cringe pausing my show so she can tell me what happened.

"He doesn't know how to make espresso, he thought it was caramel syrup in the caramel macchiato and he poured hot coffee over ice to make cold brew" she says. I sigh knowing all of that is wrong "yeah I give it a week" I say.

Just after 11pm my phone starts ringing, its shawn again. I answer it and wait for him to talk, then I hear a girl talking and it's quiet. Nothing like the bar he works at. "Does she know you're not opening the bar here?" The girl says.

"Uh no no she doesn't" he answers. I raise my eyebrows in confusion "I'm almost done the menu at the shop, and the bar opens in 4 months I don't know how to tell her" he adds.

Before anything else is said I hangup and stare into space. "Do we have wine?" I ask. "Kai, its Monday" she says. "I don't care, do we have wine?" I ask. She nods looking at me concerned "y-yeah we do, should I be scared?" She asks.

I shake my head no and get up to get myself a glass of wine. I add a few ice cubes and sit down on the couch "that was Shawn that called, he's keeping something from me and I don't know when he's going to tell me" I say.

"Wait, what was said on the other end?" She asks. "His bar he's opening isn't being opened here, it's being opened in Miami" I say. "That's the other side of the country" she says. I nod slowly taking a giant sip of wine "yeah, I'm aware" I say.

She tries her best to distract me and for about an hour it works. Right until the buzzer goes off. "Its gotta be him, I'll go to my room so you can be private" she says. I buzz him up and he knocks gently.

I open it for him and he pulls me in for a hug. "Today was a long day" he whispers into my neck. I nod in agreement, I'm just going to wait until he tells me. "I agree" I whisper.

He lifts me up and i wrap my legs around his waist, he walks over to the kitchen putting me on the counter. "You've got wine out, you okay?" He asks. I nod "yeah I uh just needed to relax a bit" I reply.

"Ah huh" he says. I nod "I was off today" I say. "How was it?" He asks. I tell him about everything except for the phone call. He tells me about his day and his plans for the week just incase I don't hear from him.

He looks at me and raises his eyebrows "are you okay?" He asks. I nod "yeah I'm just tired" I whisper. He nods knowing somethings up "right um I should just tell you now so it doesn't seem out of nowhere" he starts.

My heart thumps and drops down to my stomach "my bar is actually going to be in Miami" he says. "Which means you'll be moving there" I assume. He let's out a sigh rubbing his forehead "yeah, which means I'll be moving there" he confirms.

"So what does this mean for us?" I ask. We've been dating for 9 months now and I'm deeply in love with him. "What do you want it to mean?" He asks. We haven't said the L word yet but we both know.

We sit in silence for a solid minute while I think "I don't want to lose you, but my family and jobs here" I say. He nods "so when I do we're done?" He asks. "Is that what you want?" I ask.

He shakes his head no just before kissing me "no, I love you kai" he says. I smile happily "I love you too shawn" I reply. He smiles "so it means we'll do long distance and try to make it work I suppose" he says.

We make an agreement before moving to my room and falling asleep for the night. I'm guessing claire ended up falling asleep since when we wake up the next morning claire has made coffee.

On the drive to work I tell claire about our talk and she agrees with our plan on trying long distance. She gives me some advice on doing it and then we work all day.

The trainee comes in after 3pm and she gets me to train him. It takes a bit for him to get a few things he was struggling with but he eventually gets it.

I don't hear much from shawn all day but he comes in near close to get a drink. He only has a few more drinks left so he hasn't come every day like he use to. "Did you drive today?" He asks.

"No claire drove" I answer. He nods "okay I'm driving you home then" he says. "I'm fine with that" I reply. He smiles winking at me and then sitting down.

The last few customers leave and shawn helps me clean the mugs while claire cleans the floor and cashes out. Once everything is done we lock up and I let her know I'll be home later.

Shawn and I end up getting ice cream and sitting in a parking lot talking. I end up sitting on his lap gently and we just sit in silence for a little bit.

Unfortunately the bar is opening sooner than we both expected so he's leaving next week. I want all of the time I can get with him before he leaves. I don't know how we're going to make the distance work but I'm sure we'll manage.

If you're confused about what's going on we're getting there believe me it just takes time, I'm trying to make the story a long one and with that comes with this chaos uh anyways give me your thoughts
