Chapt 34

I stop running and take a sip of my water before turning around and walking half way and running the rest of the way back to the apartment.

Sage is still at work but she'll be home soon so we can get ready for the party tonight. It's the bye bye pandemic party, claire and joseph are coming early to help decorate.

After I get home I start showering and dancing around. "Babe?" I hear. "In the shower!" I shout. She doesn't say anything else and a few minutes later I feel arms around my waist. "Hi" she whispers kissing my neck.

"I missed you" she whispers. I smile biting the inside of my lip "I missed you" I say turning around. "Ready for tonight?" She asks. I nod feeling excited "yes!" I reply before naming off a few of the friends we've made adding that they're bringing dates.

We finish the shower and then change into casual outfits. I have on a crop top and leather pants and she's wearing a flannel and Jean's. Claire and joseph come in a few minutes after we start decorating.

As we're decorating I look around satisfied and Joseph stands next to me. "I'm doing it next week" he says. I nod "let me know and I can take her to get her nails done" I say. "Got it" he replies.

Sage comes over and pulls me close by the waist "wanna dance?" She asks. I giggle and she starts leading me in a slow dance with no music playing.

Claire comes back from the bathroom, she wanted to add some spice for the guests. "What are you doing?" She asks. We both laugh and Joseph pulls her into a music less dance.

We end up laughing a lot then our first guests start knocking on the door. I walk away to let them laugh and I open the door, Patrick and his partner jack stand there holding a big bottle of wine. "Hey girlies" jack says.

I smile "come in!" I say opening the door even more. Down the hall I hear the elevator ding and a few more familiar voices come off of it. "Oh look the gayest of us all" Patrick jokes.

"Haha no that's you" Madeline replies walking up with her wife. "Come on in" sage says coming up next to me. They all walk in going to the kitchen where I have a charcuterie board and bowls of chips and a alcohol.

Before I'm able to close the door I hear my mom and sister getting close so I open it. "Hey mama, come on in" I say. She side hugs me and my sister pokes my nose before going to find claire.

A few more people come while i have the door open and i look around, a few people sitting in the living room talking and my mom, patrick, jack and sage talking in the kitchen. While I'm taking sips of my wine and watching everyone there's a quiet knock.

I turn and open it and look up seeing shawn. We are still friends, sage doesn't mind and she knows I only love her. "Oh uh come in I guess" I say opening it more. We didn't invite him but I did post that we were having a party. "Thanks" he says.

Sage comes to my side and holds my hand gently "what brought you here?" She asks. "Its a good bye to the pandemic party is it not?" He asks. "Fair enough, alcohol is in the kitchen" she replies.

"Hi baby" I say. She pulls me closer and smiles looking me in my eyes "hi" she says. I peck her lips and then we go in and join the party.

I come out of the bathroom and make sure my outfit is straight and as I'm looking down I bump into something hard. "Oh uh" I say trying to get past. "Can we talk?" He asks. "About?" I ask raising my eyebrows.

"I think I still have feelings for you" he says. I sigh "look shawn, I'm the happiest I've been in a while and sage is perfect and I love her so much" i say being honest. He nods and runs his hand through his hair before grabbing my face gently.

Before either of us could say anything i hear something drop behind me and i turn around to see sage with her hands empty. "Babe it's not what it looks like" I say. She looks between us and shakes her head before walking straight out of the apartment without a word.

My heart sinks and tears run down my face as I look at shawn "get out" I say pointing to my door. As my back is still turned towards the guests I wipe my face and turn back. "Um thank you all for coming but the party is over you can all go home" I say.

They all look at me worried but without any questions almost everyone leaves. Claire sends Joseph home and stays, my mom and sister stay as well. "What happened?" My sister asks.

I wipe my face again "she thought I was cheating because shawn had his hand on my face, must've looked like we kissed" I say. Claire looks like she's going to kill shawn and I look down at the floor playing with the string from my blanket.

"Do you want to come stay at mine? Joseph won't mind" she asks. I nod "yeah, I'll bring Bobby" I say. She laughs rubbing my back gently and my mom grabs my hand "I'm a call away" she says.

Sage's point of view

To Sage,

I want to say, you're the love of my life and what you saw was not what you thought it was. He just had his hand on my face, I don't have any feelings for him. I'm at Claire's if you want to talk. I love you

The letter read. It's been a couple days since the party and what I walked in on. It looked like they had kissed, I knew as soon as I saw him he was going to make a move. I'm finally back at the apartment and she's gone and bobby is also gone.

fuck. I asked her mom if I can ask her to marry me that night and she said yes. I ponder texting her and then I craft a text in my notes app.

To kai: got the note, I love you more than life itself but I think we need to breakup I'm sorry

And send.

Back to Kai's point of view

While I'm sitting on Claire's couch my phone buzzes and I look at it and my heart drops. Sage. "What is it?" Claire asks. "She broke up with me" I whisper typing out a reply.

To sage: if that's what you want then fine. Have the apartment I'll find my own.

And sent.

I put my phone down for the rest of the night and claire talks about our girls day tomorrow. I'm gonna need it as much as she will. She doesn't know she's getting engaged tomorrow night.

"I have ice cream and wine coming via joseph" she tells me. I nod and wipe my face before texting my mom and sister the same 'She broke up with me' text.

As the emotions run through my body I angrily text shawn.

To shawn: you got what you want

I let my phone die after and claire watches tv with me and Joseph soon joins with ice cream and wine. "Um so I guess I'll be here until I find a place" I say. "Don't worry" Joseph says.

We stay up late and I fall asleep in my bed crying as sad music blasts through my ears.
