chapt 16

Give me your thoughts

With one hand rubbing Claire's back and the other holding her hair up I look up at the ceiling. "How long have you been throwing up like this for?" I ask her. She shrugs after sitting back "a week" she says.

I sigh "you need to get checked out" I say. She waves it off and goes to the kitchen where I follow right behind her. "Seriously claire, you could have something wrong with your kidneys or maybe you're pregnant" I say.

She turns around and gives me a serious look "do not tell me to take a test" she says. "I'm just saying! Please get looked at if it continues" I reply. She sighs "fine" she whispers turning back around and making coffee.

"I forgot the schedule, are you working?" She asks. "Yeah, me, harrison and eli" I answer. "Awesome, how is eli?" She asks. "He's good, a quick learner and makes good coffee" I answer. "Good good" she says.

We talk for a bit before i leave to the shop, I'm opening and they're coming in in a few hours. I enjoy opening the shop, it's the calm before the storm.

The music plays quietly while I'm setting everything up and then I hear the bell above the door ding. "Good morning" I hear. I look up and eli is coming in.

"Oh uh good morning, are you just stopping by for a coffee or coming in early?" I ask. "Oh coming in early" he says. I nod "awesome uh can you grab a bag of beans for me? The machine's almost empty" I ask.

He nods going to the back with his bag and coming back with a bag of beans. "I grabbed decaf too" he says. "Yeah that ones almost empty too" I say.

About an hour goes by before a customer comes in so we just talk and talk. "So are you still single?" He asks. I nod "yeah uh she actually stopped talking to me and tweeting but she's done that before I'm use to it" I answer.

"Would it be against the rules since you're my boss if I asked if you wanted to get a drink or something sometime?" He asks. I feel my face heat up a bit and I look over at him sweeping "it's not really against the rules so yeah sure" I reply.

His head whips towards my direction and his eyes light up and his eyebrows raise "really? It wouldn't be too weird?" He asks. I laugh "not at all, I actually dated a customer for a little over a year" I answer.

Before he can say anything a few customers comes in and order their drinks before sitting on the couch by the window. "How'd that happen?" He asks. "He offered to drive me here one day so I could save gas then we got to know each other" I answer.

"What ended it?" He asks. "The distance" I say simply. "Didn't he live here?" He asks. I nod "yeah for a bit then he moved to miami to open a bar" I respond.

He nods understanding "wow I get that I've had long distance relationships before" he says. "Its tough" I whisper. "Uh yeah anyways, would you wanna get a drink after?" He asks.

I nod slowly and he begins to smile "cool cool" he whispers. I giggle and we go back to working. Harrison comes in and doesn't notice the flirting and subtle touches.

Right until 3:30pm it's the three of us and Harrison leaves and viola comes in. It's been awhile since she's worked the same time as me so this is nice having someone other than claire or harrison.

We close up at 8:30 after the last customer has left. Viola gets in her car while we're standing outside and eli is smoking. "You want a hit?" He asks. I look between his fingers at the hot red tip of a joint.

"Oh uh no I have to drive" I say pointing at my car. "Oh right sorry" he says quickly putting it out. I laugh slightly before getting in "just don't do it in my car I don't want to get pulled over" i say.

He gives me a thumbs up and I start pulling out of the parking lot "so where to?" I ask. "Oh uh I don't know many bars" he confesses. I nod "alright to the liquor store, I've got mix and ice at home" I say driving to the nearest store.

We get there and theres not many people inside, he grabs a couple small things for himself, and I grab a couple bottles of wine for whenever we want them, a case of beer and a bottle of tequila.

I get to check out and he's standing at the end waiting for me, he raises his eyebrows "what?" I question him. He chuckles "nothing" he says. I pay for it and he helps me carry it out to my car.

A couple hours go by and we're now watching a movie and taking a sip of our drink whenever something makes us cringe. So far he's had to take a couple sips and I've only had to take one.

Claire texted me earlier that she's at Joseph's for the night so I have the apartment to myself not knowing that eli is here. "Wait so your roommates with claire?" He asks.

"Yeah it's been almost a year" I say trying to do the math in my intoxicated mind. "Oh that's cool" he whispers. "Yeah, so we're both too drunk to drive you home" I point out.

He nods in agreement and I lock eyes with him. "Can I kiss you?" He asks. I nod slowly biting the inside of my lip. He leans in and I tilt my head towards him and our lips connect. They're quite smooth.

We end up making out for a little bit before going to sleep. I end up sleeping with a confused mind.
