Chapt 35

It hasn't been a full 24 hours of us being broken up and I already want to crawl into a whole and just live in it. I woke up with a wet pillow from crying and death by a thousand cuts by taylor swift playing.

Since my best friend is getting engaged tonight I pull myself together for her. I didn't put on any makeup since I'll probably be crying a lot today. We are currently at the nail salon getting our nails done. She is getting acrylics and I'm getting shorter acrylics.

"So what brought you here today?" Her lady asks her. "Just needed my nails done" she answers simply. And you're getting engaged!

As they do our nails they make conversation and it actually helps distract my mind. "So you have boyfriends?" Hers asks us looking at the both of us. "I do, we've been together a couple years" claire answers with a smile.

I look at my hand quietly "I actually had a girlfriend" I answer. "Oh no what happened?" Mine asks me looking up from the nails. "It's a long story" I reply. She nods and goes back to doing my nails.

They finish up a few minutes later and I pay for the both of us then we decide to go for lunch. "Let's take a pic of them" she suggests.

Only a couple minutes after she sends the pic to joseph he texts me for an update.

Joseph: guessing you're at lunch everything should be set up by 5

That means shopping. A lot of shopping.

"Oh Joseph has a dinner planned, what should we do until then?" She asks. I shrug "shopping?" I ask. "Oooh yes! I could use a new dress and I saw these shoes last time we went maybe they're still there" she says.

Distraction is a go.

We finish up at lunch and I check the time as she drives over to the mall. 1:30 so we have a couple of hours awesome.

As she's trying on dresses in the try on area I sneakily text Joseph an update.

To joseph: she has no idea! she's trying on dresses

She comes out wearing one and it's perfect for tonight. "You're definitely getting that one" I say. "I agree" she says looking at herself in the mirror.

We leave the mall around 3:30 carrying a ton of bags. We get back to the apartment and I manage to distract her and convince her to let me help her get ready.

"So you don't feel weird that you're helping me with a date?" She asks as I finish curling her hair. "No not at all" i reply. Even when i was single and she'd have dates I'd help her this isn't any different.

5 hits and I get a text from Joseph.

Joseph: it's all done you're free to bring her here

"Ready?" I ask her. She looks at me confused "yeah? Are you driving me there?" She asks. I nod "yup" I answer simply.

She looks at me confused before we leave and I drive her there in my car. It's a nice field where he has a picnic set up and there's a big thing of lights.

There's a few others in the field doing their own thing. I sit in the car as she gets out "have fun" I tell her. "I'll be here" I add. She nods and walks over to Joseph.

While they're eating I watch every so often. Joseph put me in charge of filming when the time came. I look up and they're dancing on the spot.

I sneak out of the car grabbing the camera I managed to sneak into my purse and I start filming somehow without her noticing.

The song ends and they stop dancing. He pulls away and starts pulling the box out of his pocket. She looks over at me for a few seconds before looking back at him, he's now one on knee.

He starts talking and it's loud enough for me and for the camera to hear it as well. "Will you marry me?" He asks. With her hands covering her mouth in shock she nods yes.

"Woooo!" I cheer behind the camera. Claire looks over at me and finally realizes I was filming. She laughs and blows me a kiss as Joseph slips the ring on.

After getting a shot of the ring I stop filming and they pull me into a group hug. "Thank you for helping" Joseph says. "I had no idea" she says. I smile feeling proud "of course! It was my mission to make sure you didn't find out" I tell them.

Since I want them to have the night alone together I hug them goodbye and decide to go over to my sisters.

"Oh hey, didn't expect you" she says opening the door. I shrug "well figured I'd give claire and Joseph some alone time" I reply. "How're you holding up?" She questions.

I sit down next to her and shrug "as good as I can, haven't cried since this morning" I joke. She frowns "you'll be okay" she encourages. "I don't know about that" I reply. She sighs "okay I wasn't going to say anything because I promised mom and sage, but sage asked mom for permission" she says.

My heart breaks and I look down at my hands "r-really?" I ask. "Yeah, don't know when she was going to ask but she was" she says.

She wipes my cheek and hands me a tissue "I don't know if she's willing to talk it out" I say. "She might be" she shrugs. "Maybe give it a couple weeks" she adds.

"I will I just hope she'll hear me out" I say. "For your sake me too, when you're with her you're the happiest I've ever seen you" she says.

I nod and smile thinking of everything we've done together when she's been here or when I went to england. "She makes me happy" I say. "Good, now why you leaving claire and Joseph alone? Didn't you just move back in?" She asks.

Nobody but Joseph and I knew that the engagement was happening today so I grab my phone and show her the pictures I personally took of the ring. "Oh shit! Did you help with it?" She asks.

"Yup! I filmed something too, joseph has the camera so I can't show you" I answer. I end up spending the night and just going to the school the next day.

I woke up early and borrowed my sisters stuff to brush my hair and make it look like I'm not a mess. The students thankfully don't notice how much of a mess i am and I go back to claire and Joseph's.

For the rest of the day I look at apartments hoping to not actually have to move into one. They both make me eat something and then I crawl into bed for another night of crying.
