Chapt 22

I stare into space leaning against the counter and drinking my coffee while my phone sits open on the counter behind me. Never did I ever think I'd have to choose between people.

While I'm trying to figure out what I'm going to do claire comes out from her room with her hair messy and a couple cups in her hands. "Mornin" she says. "Uh morning" I say grabbing my phone.

She raises her eyebrows "what's going on?" She asks. "Uh both shawn and sage messaged me while I was sleeping" I start. "Ok? What did they both say?" She asks. "Sage said she needs time but she does want to be with me, and shawn asked to hang out this weekend" I answer.

"Well what are your feelings toward shawn? Are they like when you dated or are they different?" She asks. I think for a few seconds before answering honestly "they're different, but if we got back together and it didn't work out we could still be friends after". She nods "okay uh what about sage?" She asks.

My heart thumps and I start thinking about what could happen in the future with us and where it would go. "The feelings are strong but the anxiety of it not working out or her cheating is there" I answer a few minutes later.

She gives me some advice and I take it. Be honest with shawn about sage being in the picture, and be honest to sage about shawn being back in the picture and if anything goes further with either to cut it off with the other.

I first start with shawn.

To shawn: hey uh sure but I want to be honest with you, I am talking to someone and something could happen with them but nothing is offical

And I think for a good 10 minutes about what I'm going to send sage.

To sage: I want to be with you too, but I'm going to be honest shawn moved back here and wants to be in my life again

Setting my phone down i finish breakfast and then get ready to go teach for the day. I grab my thermos of coffee before leaving and driving off.

Taylor's playing on the radio so I turn it up and jam out on the way to the school. I'm earlier than I was yesterday so i have time to prep.

Before i look at the time the bell rings so i grab a few things and wait outside for the students. One of the moms staying after their kid is in the room. "Is there anything you'd like to talk to me about?" I ask her. "Oh uh I know you're my kids teacher in the afternoon and I just wanted to let you know she has a dentist appointment right as school is ending so would I be able to pick her up 20 minutes before?" She asks.

"Oh yes of course! When you come to get her let the office know and they'll call to let me know" I answer. She thanks me before leaving and I start teaching, her daughter then let's me know what's going on.

With a smile I nod and move on. The day goes on and right at the time I was told the office calls me to send the student down with her stuff. Before she goes she waves goodbye to her friends and even shouts goodbye to me as she exits the class.

These students are always making me laugh and smile, some days are hard but most are good. "Okay there's about 15 minutes until the bell rings so I'm just going to put on YouTube! Does anyone have anything they want to watch?" I ask.

Olivia raises her hand nicely "yes Olivia?" I ask. "Taylor swift!" She shouts. A few of the other girls cheer and a couple of the boys groan probably tired of hearing taylor. "Okay only a couple songs though" I say putting on a couple music videos.

I put on a couple educational videos for after and wait for the bell to ring. It goes off and they excitedly get up and start getting all of their stuff and running out to their parents or bus.

A few moms picking their child up wave at me before leaving, i make sure they're all gone before doing work in the room.

Claire texts me saying she needs picked up, Joseph has to work late so he won't be picking her up. I finish up half an hour later and head to the coffee shop.

Harrison sees me and perks up "kai!" He cheers. I smile missing this job "heyyyyy can I just get my usual" i ask. He nods and starts making an iced caramel latte.

I sit at a table waiting for them to close up, the customers that are still here leave before they need to be asked to leave. I help them close again so it doesn't take as long.

My phone buzzes in my pocket just as I finish what I'm doing. Both sage and shawn have yet to say anything so I'm going to guess that it's one of them texting back.

@/sagetheleaf: i want to do long distance now and understand that you're going to be friends with him still and I trust you

I smile reading it and thinking of a reply before typing it out and sending it. Claire gets my attention and we head out, she locks up and we go home. Since we're both too tired to cook we order McDonald's on postmates and just relax for the rest of the night.

Tomorrows friday so I'll be home earlier than I was today. Right as 11pm hits sage messages me on discord, we talked for a little after I got home but she had to sleep.

From sage: still can't sleep, want to hop in vc?

I look over at claire and she's texting on her phone, I'm assuming Joseph. "Uh ima go to bed now" I say right as the episode of our show ends. She nods "okay night" she says.

After grabbing my stuff and plopping on my bed I put my earbud in and join the private voice chat with sage. "Hi" she whispers.

My heart thumps as I hear her tired voice speak. "Hey you" I whisper. "How are you?" She asks. "I'm good work was good, how are you?" I ask. "That's good, I worked late" she replies. "How late?" I ask.

We talk for about an hour until i hear her whisper goodnight and she falls asleep. Her sleep schedule must be really messed up. I leave the voice chat and fall asleep a few minutes later.

A few more months go by and we haven't made it offical, we talk everyday and try to video chat as much as we can. The time difference can be hard when she's working and I'm sleeping and then when I'm working she's finishing work and then going to bed but we manage.

Last month there were talks about a deadly virus that started in russia and it's starting to spread to neighbouring countries. The only thing the world has been told to do is wash your hands and stay 6 feet apart. That I can do.

I'm off today since it's saturday so I message sage asking if she's free to video chat. She messages me back a couple minutes later saying yes. I put my earbud in and join the call before she does.

"Hi love" she says. "Hi babes, how are you?" I ask her. "Good, how are you my love?" She asks. I smile happily "I'm good, how was work yesterday? I'm sorry we werent able to talk much" I ask. "It was good, its okay babe its apart of doing long distance" she says.

My heart flutters and I smile "so are we official? Can I call you my girlfriend now?" I ask. "Yes" she says and I can tell she's smiling. "Ahh yay" I cheer. She laughs causing me to smile "so when can I come visit?" She asks. "Mmm whenever you want to" I reply.

We talk for a bit before claire and Joseph come back. "Talk to you later" I whisper. "Bye love" she says. We leave at the same time and I spend the rest of the day with these two.

Sage texts me goodnight before she goes to bed and I figure out what I'm going to be doing tomorrow, probably laundry and hopefully getting sage out here maybe for spring break.
