ocean between us

chapt 18

Writing this while I'm at work lol hope you enjoy give me your thoughts and maybe even future chapter ideas

While looking around in the crowded restaurant i find my sister and mom at a table in the back by a window. My sister catches my eye and waves me over, I weave around the tables and finally get to our table. "Sorry for being late" I apologize and sit down beside my mom.

"It's okay sweetie, how's work going?" She asks. "Good I've found a school to work at starting in the fall, I'll be teaching english and math and until the fall I'm working at the coffee shop" I answer. "That's awesome" my sister say happily.

The appetizers they ordered come, they ordered stuffed mushrooms for me. "Thank you" I say in between bites. My mom smiles "of course" she says eating her cherry tomatoes and mozzarella.

We finish lunch and go shopping for a little bit, we leave the mall with our hands full of bags. "Let me know when you're home" my mom tells me. I give her a thumbs up and pull away driving home.

Eli texts me when I'm driving letting me know he's off and on his way over. Claire's at work with viola and I'm guessing Harrison just came in.

I text him back using voice to text and about 15 minutes later I'm pulling up to the apartment. He's already there standing outside and typing away on his phone.

"How was work?" I ask opening the front lobby door. "Good, boring without you" he says. "Just for that the next shift we work together I'll make it boring" I joke.

We take the elevator up and he stands behind me with an arm around my waist. "I'll figure out how to make it fun" he whispers. I close my eyes gently  "not at work" I reply. "Get your head out of the gutter" he chuckles.

I roll my eyes and we step off going to my apartment. He stands against the wall while I'm scrambling to open the door. "Seriously tho we can't do that there" I say. He nods "i know" he says.

Once the door is open i beeline towards the kitchen looking for something to snack on before dinner. He chuckles standing and watching me "you're adorable" he comments.

My face heats up but I'm facing away from him so he can't see me, I finish what I'm doing and then move over to the couch. "So what are we ordering or making for dinner?" He asks.

"Chinese?" I ask. He nods in agreement then rubs his stomach, I laugh slightly and over him some cheese and crackers. He takes one and eats it gracefully.

After we've finished eating the snack we order a bunch of different things from the Chinese restaurant down the road including crab rangoons.

My phone buzzes while we're watching tv and I take a glance thinking it's just claire letting me know she's going to be at her boyfriends after work again but it's not.

It's sage. Who I had thought just dropped off the face of the planet.

Before saying anything I take a deep breath and just swipe it away. Our food comes right in time for the next episode of the show to start.

Eli ends up staying the night again, after we ate as much as we could we put the containers in the fridge. While he nicely massaged my back I scooped us some ice cream and then I sat on the counter.

"So what's your summer looking like?" He asks. "Spending lots of time with my mom and sister and probably just working at the shop before I have to stop in the fall" I answer. He looks at me with a frown "wait you're leaving the shop in the fall?" He asks.

I nod looking down at my ice cream "yeah uh claire knows but you two are the only ones that know, um I can't be a teacher and a barista at the same time" I answer. He puts his bowl down and stands between my legs.

Before anything else is said he kisses me deeply and I frown when he pulls away. "I'll miss working with you" he whispers. I nod biting my lip and looking between his eyes and his lips.

He rubs my face and I smile "thank you for understanding" I whisper. He nods grabbing the bowl again "of course, uh will I be seeing you still?" He asks.

I look down in the bowl of ice cream thinking everything over. "Yeah, I'll visit you at work when I can and we can get together when we can" i answer.

After eating our ice cream in comfortable silence we move over to the couch and I fall asleep with my head in his lap while he's playing with my hair.

While I'm asleep my phone is buzzing away and eli leaves it in my pocket. I wake up about an hour later and he's watching tv but his eyes keep closing for longer than a few seconds.

"Hey" I whisper. His eyes widen and he looks over at me "hey sleepy" he says. I smile "wanna head over to my bed?" I ask. He nods yawning and I smile standing up and holding my hand out.

It doesn't take long for us to be asleep. Morning comes quicker than we wanted, I smell coffee and look over and eli is still asleep. "crap" i whisper. He turns over and pulls me closer.

Before I could say no i give in and cuddle up to him. My heart beats and I bite the inside of my lip thinking everything through. After a few seconds I move away and go into the kitchen grabbing my phone on the way out.

"Good morning" claire says. "Hi" I whisper looking at my phone. Sage. All of the buzzing was from sage. "Sage messaged me while I was asleep on the couch with eli" I say.

She looks at me like I'm insane "are you good? What are your feelings" she asks. I sigh shrugging and running my hand through my hair. "I honestly don't know, I'm having fun with eli but I somehow grew to like sage after she came back" I reply being honest.

While drinking my coffee she gives me some advice and I think everything through. I have to let sage know that I am seeing someone.

I text her before eli comes in and we enjoy breakfast before he has to go for work. My phone buzzes in my pocket it and I leave it for a few minutes feeling nervous.

Claire looks at me right as I take my phone out of my pocket. "What she say?" She asks.

I don't say anything else and I think about what I should do today. The summer is going by surprisingly fast so I have to figure out how many students I have so I know how many extra supplies I should buy.

The school has me teaching fourth graders, I'm teaching english and math so they rotate throughout the day but come to me for those two classes.

While I'm planning I also text back and forth with eli and occasionally claire will message me. She's off today so she's out with Joseph I think they're going on a hike.

Around 4pm they come back sweaty and gross, they both walk past me going straight to her room to shower. I grab my headphones to avoid any potential noises that may come from that area.

Just as 6pm approaches eli let's me know he's coming over with a bottle of wine, ice cream and a couple movies. That's a bit weird he normally does that when I'm on my period.

My heart sinks and I start counting the days and the weeks and my mind is so foggy I can't do the math. Both claire and joseph are staring at the tv while they're eating.

Half an hour after eli tests me he comes up and I hug him tightly. "Are you cramping at all?" He asks. "Um can we go to my room?" I ask. He nods and we sneakily go to my room.

"What's happening?" He asks. "My periods late" I say sitting down and looking at the floor. "What? You haven't gotten it?" He asks. I shake my head nervously and my heart begins to pound right through my chest.

Well well well I hope you liked that cliffhanger I promise not to take forever to write the next chapter I still dont know how long this is going to be but i promise next chapter will have a lot of movement to the actual plot
