“Uy pre, kumusta?!” tuwang bati ni Ron kay Jake at tinapik pa ang braso nya. “Ang galing, sinong mag-aakalang dito tayo sa daan mag-rereunion?” natatawang sabi nya na nagpalit-palit ng tingin sa’ming dalawa.
Confused si Jake. Hindi nya alam kung papansinin nya muna si Ron o kakausapin nya muna ako.
Bumaling si Jake sa’kin, “Sumunod ako sa’yo dahil bigla kang nawala sa loob. Di ka nagsabi. What happened? And Ron’s here pala, with you,” at tumingin sya kay Ron.
Napabuntung-hininga ako. “Love kasi ang tawagan namin before,” sabi ko. “You know that diba?”
“Force of habit,” sabi ni Ron at ngumiti sa’kin. “By the way, how are you guys? We’ve not seen each other for a long time, for what, a year na ba Aileen?”
Naliwanagan naman ang mukha ni Jake. Hindi ako lumabas para kitain si Ron Jake.
“Yeah, I think so. I’m not sure,” sabi ko at matipid na ngumiti.
“And pare, we have not seen each other for more than two years, I’m positive,” sabi ni Ron. “Kumusta na? Teka, ngayon lang din ba kayo nagkita ulit?”
Umakbay si Jake sa’kin, not being territorial, “We’re together,” he just stated a fact. “We’re getting married in June.”
Hindi nakapagsalita si Ron, gulat lang nya kaming tiningnan. May sumungaw ring ngiti sa huli from him. “Talaga? This must be all over the news then! Hindi ko alam kasi kadarating ko lang kahapon dito sa Pilipinas. Really? Kayo?”
“Yes Ron. Can you imagine? Kami pala,” sabi ko at ngumiti kay Jake.
Natuwa si Jake at ngumiti sya sa’kin.
“I better head,” sabi ni Ron at paalis na. “Nice seeing you two.”
“Sige pare,” sabi ni Jake.
“Okay,” sabi ko.
“Why did you leave me in there?” tanong ni Jake. “Bigla ka na lang umalis.”
“I just want you to be fully adored by your admirers,” irap kong biro. “After showering, gusto ko lang lumabas saglit, babalik naman ako.”
“I want you with me, always, kung pwede naman,” sabi nya. “Do not mind those girls.”
“You’re being awkward with them Babe. You are losing your cool kasi I was around. You need to handle them naturally with or without me. I don’t want you to be forced to put on a show kasi I’m around,” sabi ko.
“I want you with me or near me, always. That’s it. Capiche?”
“Okay,” sabi ko na di napigilang ngumiti.
“Don’t mind them. No one or nothing has power over me. Only you have that power,” sabi nya at pinindot nya ang ilong ko.
