Chapter 15 – LoCaHe

"He'd be in our lives. He'd try," sabi ni Jake. 

Tulala akong sumagot, "I know."

"You haven't talked about the two of you. What happened with you guys and why did you break up?"

"I told you we didn't work out. I went in the relationship convincing myself I can try with him because I thought I loved him. Kasi diba, andami na naming napagdaanan? And he was there in New York too. We were near each other, we were both free, it was very convenient for both of us. We really had to love each other kasi we were too far away from our families and from everything familiar. It was our time. One thought we'd work out kasi we only depended on each other, pero wala. I did love him some way, pero I missed you then at ikaw yung mahal ko talaga. Everyday I was realizing na I was missing you and that I was with the wrong guy. I was incapable of making it work."

"So it's your fault then?"

Matama ko syang tiningnan. Masakit at tumama yung sinabi nya pero hindi ko alam kung tama sya. "Kagagawan ko?" I asked, denying it but unsure.

"Yeah, kasi you said you loved me noon pa lang pero kayo. Kasalanan mo nga."

"I thought... Wait, hindi ba mutual yun?"

"How can you have possibly progressed with him kung hindi naman sya yung mahal mo? How did you break it off?"

"I told him. Sabi ko, 'we're not working out, let's not be together'," pagkukuwento ko. 

"Pumayag sya?" 

I tried to recount the moment when Ron and I talked, "He said pag-isipan ko daw."

"Ano?" He asked with a confused look. "He didn't agree Babe."

"Is that a statement or a question?"

"Is he mad at you? You think?" Jake asked.

"Why? I mean why would he be? We've broken it off a long time already. More than a year ago na yun. And he's moved on. He has Ate Caroline now."

He chuckled, more of a snort, "Babe, we both know she's still married to that Mayor."

"Kaya nga that's sad for Ron. He should find someone who will love him without sabit."

"Babe, he had that with you."

"Stop na. We didn't work out nga eh. At ba't parang pinamimigay mo 'ko?" I backtracked.

"Hindi 'no! I'm just wondering why he's acting strange. He should be angry with us kahit civil man lang, but not friendly like he is now."

"Alam mo we're just being paranoid. What we should think about is our trip. We haven't finished packing!"
